So here in the LA area I have found a couple of Japanese books stores and Ive been buying go books here and there. Since I cant read Japanese, I try to only pick up books of problems. I can tell what the books are by the content, of course...but does anyone have more information about them? The titles of each, etc,...

The only one I recognise is the top right set, it's the Segoe Tesuji Dictionary
http://senseis.xmp.net/?SegoeTesujiDictionaryand is very good I hear (I have the Chinese version but It's above my level right now and I haven't had any time to study it yet). I think at least one volume is now out of print.

Thanks tchan, that is very helpful...I certainly now dont feel as discouraged when looking at the 150 book.
Has anyone had luck in buying used books from amazon.jp and getting them shipped to the US? If so it seems you can get a lot of these books really cheap (minus shipping)

If it's from amazon.jp, you need third part sellers that can do 海外 shipping. I've run into very few on the books I want that will do that. I did just order gokyo shumyo that way and hope to get it soon.
For more popular Japanese books it probably works well. I usually just get a bunch of new books at once, but that doesn't work for the out of print.

I like the "X 段合格" books. How hard is the 7dan tesuji book? I wonder if it would be too much to ask for a sample problem...

Hi, sure... there are two types in the book, local and full board problems. I just randomly chose one of each.
Ill put the answers up later.

Not really. You can find them on amazon.co.jp for less than $40/volume

Nope, I just ran a search on them and they are still out of print just like they were a year ago. The first and third you can get used for a reasonable price, but the second volume is about $100 used on amazon.co.jp.

So why fixate on an out of print Japanese edition when you can still buy the Chinese editions?
