New tsumego apps are available in AppStore (search for baduk).
There are 4 versions of this app. Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced -each one for 2.39€ with 600 tsumego each app. And there is one app with all 1800 problems for 5.49€

I think dan players could be disapointed with "Advanced" level, but there is a free version of this app so go check it by yourself.

I've had this for Android for a little while and recommend it. It's a nice set of problems well set up.

I wrote about this and Nihon-Kiin's tsumego here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5168

I've found it nice, but I've enjoyed more the Nihon-kiin's. At least it has no bugs...

I remember seeing this app on android market, and now I wondered why I didn't install it, so I checked it again. The android app "[Lite]Yoo's Life&death" asks for the "directly call phone numbers" permission, which I find very suspicious :-?

You can also search for baduk in the AppStore - you will find it

I search regularly for baduk and then sort for more recent in my iPad... This is how I catch the latest updates and apps. Have you tried the Kiin's tsumego app?

That *is* strange. I was thinking of checking it out on Android, but that makes me think twice...

Not to cast cold water on a bit of fun paranoia, but this is the same app that's in the iOS store, right? I don't think iOS apps are even allowed to dial arbitrary phone numbers. So if this is a scam or something, it's a pretty weird one.

What are the odds the developer could have requested the wrong permissions?

The 'lite' version of the iOS app runs on my iPod touch, which of course has no phone number.

Same goes for my iPad (My iTouch is too old for this app, basically the developers were too lazy to cut down library requirements for iOS 4.2).

It's no scam, I think, but isn't great either (at least in the iWorld, where there is a lot more competition)

On my iPad2, iOS 5, these apps didn't request my phone number. Not even an email address. Just a user name and a password for the ranking list. I'm probably missing something terribly obvious (i.e. this only happening on the iPhone).

The ranking list is actually quite beneficial: the intensity of grinding problems becomes measurable. ;)

I have it on both and it hasn't requested any number on either.
