I just started playing Go and i'm looking for resources in the SoCal Area
Does anyone know if there are any Go book stores or equipment shops between San Diego and LA?
I live in Irvine, so I'm looking for a club around here too.

-Thanks

I got a board and set of stones/bowls at

http://www.hmart.com/company_new/shop_s ... e_code=IVN

Don't expect too much there, but for the price it's great.

You can find some random Japanese Go books at Book Off and I'm sure there are a ton of small Chinese and Korean shops. I think your best bet for books is still going to be mail order down there. Kinokuniya in Costa Mesa may have some English books available.

You found a go board at H-Mart? I go there all the time but have never seen any thing go related. I'll have to check again when I go.

I don't know how uniform the design is, but look in the aisle with appliances and cleaning supplies.

There is a club in Irvine. I seem to recall that it was just off Trabuco road, at some Chinese school or cultural center...my memory is a bit fuzzy on this one.

Talk to Kevin Chao at the Alhambra Go Club ( 3000 Valley Rd ). He should know the contact info for the Irvine group.

Also, see http://usgo.org/chapters.php?state=CA#listing

Half of the info there may be out of date, but the other half may be useful.

That one is the one I went to, and I heard it closed down. Kevin Chao is a good resource though.

I was going to make a thread on a similar topic, so I'll just hijack this one. This summer I'll be at UCLA for 3 weeks from the end of June to the middle of July, and I'm wondering which go things I should do (within easy travel of the campus) in the small amount of free time I'll have.

Kevin runs the former irvine club. I went there at the scheduled time, but it was empty.

@Mogosoup: Sorry about that. It has been a few years.

About 3 miles south of UCLA is the Unurban coffehouse ( 3301 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica ), where they - last I heard - were scheduled to play on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Send a PM to AOkun for more details.

I would go, but santa monica is nearly 1:30 half hours away from where I live. I am actually considering reorganizing a local go club

In the other direction there's the San Diego Go club.

I just went over to costa Mesa. At books off there were only 2 English books. I bought a beginner book, stepping stones to the game of go for 1 dollar. St kino kuniya they only had 1 English go book. Fundamentals of go or something. But I bought a 19x19 magnetic go board mg13 for 40 bucks. It's kind of like the magnetic board on Kiseido I think

Does anyone in Orange county want to have go meet-ups? We can meet at some local cafe or something. I would I go, and my uncle and some of his co workers would come. I think my uncle is a 7kyu Aga maybe.
