I'm doing a webcomic, and need an SGF file that shows a complicated, dan-level game to appear in an upcoming scene. I don't really want to use a pro SGF because all of you with databases will go running and come back to tell me who really played that game. (Or maybe you'd get a kick out of that?)
So, do any of you have an SGF file you'd like to contribute?

Is the game in question between the protagonist and his teacher?

No, he walks in and watches two people playing.

Just go to the KGS archive, type in TheCaptain and grab some old game.

Cool webcomic, is there a way I could be warned when you've published more strips?

The idea of someone trying to find the easy way with go leaves me with a bad taste.

Ah, remember the days when hundreds would flock to watch TheCaptain's games, and all wonder who he was? I miss those days.

Thanks! I suppose I could start a thread in Creative Writing when I post the next page, and you could subscribe to it, and I'd post about updates there.

Yeah, well, he obviously has a lot to learn. Weren't you impatient when you were a beginner?

It was a really stupid joke. More seriously, I think it is a great comic, and I am excited to see you make more
Whew, that's a relief. I was actually kind of worried that people would not like what appear to be some bad messages in the comic. (Stuff that's resolved later, I promise.) Thanks for explaining the pun.
Everyone seems to agree that I should use one of TheCaptain's games, so I guess I will. Thanks!

Hey, watch it! Every Go book I've ever bought (nearly 300 so far), every lesson that I've ever taken, and every teaching game I've ever received has been justified by the chance of finding that magical easier way. What did Sam Spade call it, "The stuff that dreams are made of"?

To hijack / adapt an old joke.....
A go player hears there is a magical book that when he reads it he will suddenly be five dan. So he goes out and buys every book he can find, hundreds of them! He reads the first one, goes to his local go club and plays the five dan....gets slaughtered....reads the next one....same story....flash forward 10 years, many club visits, and 298 books later. He finishes his 300th book, goes to his local go club, finally for the first time beats the local five dan! After club he thinks to himself "Man, if only I had read that book first I could have saved myself so much time...."

Okaaaay. Is there some sort of in-joke about TheCaptain vs ERC that I don't know about because I haven't been around long enough?
Because: (hidden spoiler)
I thought it was only polite to ask permission from TheCaptain if I could use one of his games. His response was "Sure...why don't you use one of my old games with erc. I think I'd like to be a grizzly bear...erc looks good as a skunk"
So I went in the archives, and there was apparently only ever ONE game between ERC and TheCaptain, at least in the archives.
I thought this was a mistake, but TheCaptain ignored my subsequent messages. Poking around online, I found this page by Phelan (cough, you still there?) http://senseis.xmp.net/?Erc
Starting to feel like I was a new sailor sent to the store to buy a pound of latitude, I used the one and only game. In which, ERC slaughtered TheCaptain early on.
Anyway--

The next few pages are up, and there's a new thread in the Creative Writing forum. I assume there's some way to set it up to notify you of new posts? Updates will be posted in the Aji's Quest thread. Thanks for your interest!

Well, a skunk can sometimes make a grizzly bear run away...

My only edit to that page was a small style editing. The creators of the page aren't registered at senseis, but JaredBeck seems to have added the quote. While I saw some TheCaptain games, I have no knowledge of any in-jokes.
