I decided to make an introduction topic now even though I've been registered for a while because I have some new things to say since my introduction at godiscussions.
I don't know if anyone remembers my introduction there however I had the idea then that I wanted to be a pro Go player. I've since decided that while I'm sure I would enjoy being a pro, and spending as much time as I can with the game, that there are other careers that I would rather pursue. So I'm just going to play and study Go when I'm in the mood to and not push myself to the point where I lose some of the enjoyment.
Since I was a sophomore in high school two years ago I've been considering joining the United States Marine Corps. When I started playing Go I dropped that idea for a little while although it was always in the back of my mind and is the reason for me giving up the idea of becoming a pro Go player. Last week I turned 18 and signed my contract to enlist in the USMC.
Has anyone here served in the military or is anyone currently serving? I'd be interested to hear about your experiences if you have.

Re: A little late
I'm only going to be a Private when I leave for boot camp. I haven't decided on a job yet though. It's good to hear that you like your job, hopefully whatever I decide to do will be something I enjoy.

you are young enough to enjoy whatever you do.
few years in USMC will only help you develope into an adult.
always set your immideate goal and 10 years down to road goal.
military is easy for private. all you have to do is be at right place and right time in right uniform.
and do what they tell you to do.
