elementary tsumego series

Now that MagicWand has volunteered for the advanced problems I restrict my self for the time being to my own level. All problems are taken from the late GoDiscussions forum where explo posted them in a similar series. At his turn he found them in Cho Chikun's encyclopedia of life and death. Later I might edit more series in.

So enjoy the next elementary tsumego problems ( 10 kyu or weaker ). All problems black to play.

I'm doing this series right now and loving it! The fact that it don't have answers turned to be a bless and I'm being forced to read everything to feel certain about the solution and this is improving my reading like nothing I did before.

I already did this 16 problems and certainly learned some patterns :study: By the way, I did roughly the first 60 problems and found the #24 and #45 to be the hardest.

No worries, jts. I am fine. Relieved that I am not stuck to this for a year or so. And ... I didn't see any haters, only friendly people with a justified complaint now and then.

I am disappointed too for you. Yours is a really nice problem. With a solution! Even! ( BTW I edited my response to your problem, and BTW I am not Nobody. It was Cyclops' foe who called himself Nobody )
@Samura: nice to hear!

If you just do it for the sake of practicing your reading abilities, it might be ok. I found out that about 15% of my "correct" solutions were wrong after I had found out about the real correct solutions. So if you want to do it for the sake of learning the patterns, it would probably a bad idea.

But to tell the whole truth, neither looking nor not looking at the solutions did help me significantly as regards improvement of play.

Hhhmmm, 15% of mistakes could be worrisome to my learning indeed. But I think I'm safe because I'm studying the Davies' Life and Death book too. :)

1001 Life and Death Problems might be worth picking up. It'll drill a lot of the basic killing and living techniques into you after Life and Death introduces you to them. It's definitely not an easy book for 14k though. Then again, neither is Life and Death.

I think Life and Death is much more systematic. And is increasing in difficulty slowly. You have a chance to grow with it. 1001 is way more difficult, IMHO.

The first two sections of one move to live/kill problems are useful for a DDK for learning about vital points and snapbacks and so on. The later sections sure are too hard.

I found I could solve most of these at a glance. That must mean I'm getting stronger, right?
