Am I right in thinking that :b2: does not force the capture of :w1: ?

I guess so; :w1: and :w3: seem safe that way.

4 threatens to catch the white stone in a ladder or capture the stone on the third line.

But I think it's better to play 4 before 2.

Thank you. I thought there would be plenty of information about this, but in the material I am studying it comes under "edge crush", and I wasn't finding anything under that.
