Here's an endgame problem:

[go]$$c
$$ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . . . . O O O O O . . |
$$ . . . . . . O O X X X O . . |
$$ . . . O O O O X X . X O O O |
$$ . . . O X X X . . . . X X X |
$$ . . . O X . . . . . . . . X |
$$ ---------------[/go]
The rest of the board is settled. White to play - is there anything she can do?

Close, Splatted amd moyoaji but...

$$ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . . . . O O O O O . . |
$$ . . . . . . O O X X X O . . |
$$ . . . O O O O X X . X O O O |
$$ . . . O X X X 1 2 7 5 X X X |
$$ . . . O X . . 3 4 . 6 8 . X |
$$ ---------------[/go]
The double snap back does not emerge.
I hadn't realised this was a classic problem - my source was a relatively recent Korean book of endgame problems.

But what if I change the order of moves to make it happen?

Well done - that works.

I like double snap backs.

I (eventually) got the same solution as moyoaji. Thanks for posting it was a fun problem. :D

Yep, there are around a dozen variations on this double snapback theme in the Xuanxuan Qijing, and even more in the Guanzi Pu.

Thank-you for sharing drmwc.
