First up is one of my new favorite quotes. It is often attributed to aikidō founder Morihei Ueshiba Ō-sensei, but it is more likely that Zhuge Liang, a military strategist from China's Three Kingdoms period (220-280 CE) first said it.
Those who are skilled at combat do not become angered. Those who are skilled at winning do not become afraid. Thus the wise win before they fight, while the ignorant fight to win.
Here is another one from Carl Von Clausewitz, a Prussian (i.e., of Prussia, a European territorial empire that occupied the area forming present-day Germany and much of present-day Poland until the 1930s) military strategist from the late 18th and early 19th century.
The enemy of a good plan is the dream of a perfect plan.
Finally, here are eight I made up. (Forgive their lack of eloquence.)
