Re: 2014 Bailing Cup
The second semifinal game between Ke and Park is very interesting. Here are some highlights:
To answer black's attack, Ke Jie played a wonderful tesuji
- something like this may be seen in textbook but rare in real games.
apparently doesn't work.
After
and
, both forcing moves,
is a tesuji. White 'a' will catpture black using a ladder, please confirm.
here doesn't work either.
and
cannot be at 'a' because of the ladder mentioned in previous diagram.
White can connect after
. Black is not strong enough to cut white. This diagram also explains why in the real game Park answered Ke's original tesuji by playing at
and traded.
The game became really difficult for both sides in the end, but
(B173) is apparently a big mistake. White settled the ko and won the capturing race in the left side. Black could not kill white's dragon - as shown in the real game, white could sacrifice the 4 marked stones and make a second eye.

Final;
3rd game,
Qiu Jun defeated Ke Jie by resignation.
Qiu Jun vs Ke Jie - 2:1
Qiu Jun used an old variation of the large avalanche joseki and tricked Ke Jie, effectively securing this victory after just 50 moves

What should be black's next move?

Re: 2014 Bailing Cup
For those of you having GoGoD, you might want to check 1992-00-00b, which shows exactly the same situation as in today's Bailing Cup final. Ke Jie paid a price for being too young and he apparently got no chance to study something discovered more than 30 years ago.
BTW, GoGoD refers that game as 'National Physical Education Committe Go Team Selection Trials', something I cannot understand with my native Chinese knowledge . Sina Weiqi presents the same game as from the Chinese qualifying event of the 5th Fujitsu Cup. I have no way to know if this is true, but at least the player information has some consistency. The winner, Che Zewu 7-dan, is probably not well-known to many. But he went on to play in the 5th Fujitsu Cup main tournament, a rare appearance in an international tournament for him. He beat Lee Changho and Kobayashi Koichi to reach the quarter-final, a big achievement considering his opponents' strength.

Re: 2014 Bailing Cup
Seems like the most natural move, and josekipedia also says this is correct. This joseki probably has thousand variations. I can't imagine a person who would study this.macelee wrote:Final;
