The second game of the British Go Championship title match between myself and Andrew Kay will take place tomorrow, broadcast on KGS from 10am GMT. Matthew Macfadyen 6d will provide commentary.

I managed to lose the first game despite Andrew gifting me a 20+ lead in the opening following a game of much excitement, ko, and stupidity.

Close!

Psychologically, it's difficult when you're ahead early on. I imagine you must have felt a lot of pressure.

Good luck in game 2!

Google "good luck merde"

I am hopeful Uber took it right, anyway. :)

I managed to win this one, kept it rather more peaceful though didn't close down the game quite as much as I should have with that ko to capture 4 stones in endgame.

Raw game record:

Yes, 64 was pretty eccentric and one for the kibitzers ;-) I was feeling pretty happy at that point with the capture of n5 in sente, and thought Andrew had made a mistake in saving the two stones (should tenuki). But as he did that I figured I should push at n8 as it was a double sente (and with k17 and r10 low he has some centre potential after the push. But that push weakened the r13 group so I reinforced it (worrying about moves like s12 or r12 and crosscut. Locally I think it's actually a decent move (think I saw it in a pro game once, but a lot later in the game) as it has quite a lot of yose value, reduces black's corner group options for an eye to the centre and means s12 and r12 don't work. However, I did feel it was rather slow, but as I felt Andrew's saving of the 2 stones was slow I could reply with a slow and solid move. Having said that maybe n15 (as Matthew suggested in commentary) would be better as that creates opportunities to link up and help the right side group if he attacks that, and o18 might be sente next. However maybe I shouldn't fear r12 and crosscut or whatever (just take the ponnuki which makes the rest of the group strong and give a few stones) and play a big move like c12/13 (so probably black is too busy to do g16 stuff) or d6 or c7.

66 I didn't think was actually such a bad move: extend or hane out doesn't seem useful on this board with c14 alive and not much profit to be had from chasing his reduction group. I was surprised he gave me the ponnuki to break my shape though and then I chickened out of the ko to kill his group because I didn't want to sacrifice the lower left corner. I did actually spend quite some time reading h16 as g15 atari and then push on top but in the end decided against it as a load of ataris followed by the j16 empty triangle seems to get him out and my outside is quite thin.
