What are some good openings involving the tengen, or followups to a tengen opening? Which have you used, which worked & which didn't?

I've played against a couple people who have used the great wall http://senseis.xmp.net/?GreatWall . Others may disagree, but I think its primary strength is opponents not being familiar with it. Once I played against it a couple times the gimmick wore off for me (as an opponent).

The Great Wall works because most players let it finish being constructed, if it gets interrupted or cut in two then it doesn't work as well, which is relatively easy to do.

I think that the problem with the Great Wall fuseki has the same problem that blindly taking all four corners does, in that it doesn't respond to alternate strategies that white might employ, such as making two diagonal shimari's to extend from.

I tried tengen the other day, white blissfully ignored. I was able to capitalize with a win, but only after quite some confusion.

I ended up with double kakari on several corners, since white continued to play star points and and gote 5-5's. I'm not sure, but I think white tenuki is not a good idea here.

After the marked black and white, black connects his groups on the left and right.

Instead of the first move on tengen, i often played this opening as black if i got the chance. While it is clearly not the best opening, as it's hard to make tengen count enough (at least for me), all these games were really interesseting.

Database searches are good for this sort of thing. Of course, it depends on what white does, and there are few things that can be called fixed patterns. I personally like the strategy Mok Chin-seok used as black in a fast-play tournament back in 2001. (Here, sometimes is at 'a').

According to Go Seigen, this is the best of the possible sanrensei openings, and he prefers either pattern involving tengen to the traditional sanrensei.

That is who I was trying to emulate with my approach at 3, evidently he had a very good record with this fuseki.
