Do you do other things on the same time when playing on kgs or other server? Like watching video, kibitz other people's game, etc...

I admit myself doing it sometimes :D , and i generally don't mind my opponent doing so as long as the game still goes in good pace. And if they play on work, i even don't mind wait them a bit.

Last time in a league game, my opponent kibitzed in other people's game, and later ask me to add some time for him

I don't mind. Everyone is free to do what they want during a game. I wouldn't add time unless it was a good reason, though.

As for me, I try not to multitask when playing. I feel like I lose focus if I am doing other things(even talking with someone in the room).

A wise man once said: "the opponent is nothing but a device for refuting one's own errors". Whichever way the opponent accomplishes this is irrelevant. Whether the opponent is 30 kyu or 7 dan, multitasks or focuses, overplays or underplays, prepares tricks or plays honte moves, one must strive exclusively towards improving one's own moves.

Ostensibly.

Really, I just don't care as long as I can bash him off the board .

All the time, though not very heavily. I set my chat to away for instance, because I get extremely irritated when someone tries to start a conversation with me while I'm trying to play, both online and irl, unless the conversation pertains directly to the game and/or it's conversation with my opponent. However, I do usually surf on reddit and listen to music while I play.

Also, I will never ask for more time simply because I was occupied doing something else, even for something like just going to the bathroom.

If the game goes smooth I don't mind, and also don't notice if my opponent is multitasking.
He can use his time any way he wants. On a rare occasion I suspect my opponent of looking up some joseki variation ;-) because of an unusually slow but correct responses to my moves. I do not mind this because the beautiful thing in Go is that you can look up as much as you want, but it will not have a huge impact on your initial rank. There are no noobs who can look up variations and start beating strong dan players because they use a pro database or joseki book. I suspect this is different in chess, though I do not lpay (online) chess

I'm often busy with other things as well. usually I have the TV on and I chat a bit.
or I'm reading through some paperwork/e-mails ect.

The exceptions are
1: When I give a lesson, then I close all other stuff and focus on the lessons and expect my student to do the same.
2: When I play a serious game (but I rarely do this online)
3: When I play blitz (most of my online games) then there just isn't time for much else. I do often have the TV on, just like others listen to music.

Time controls are the factor here which makes it a non-issue, I think. I prefer good games, but if my focused play versus someone else's unfocused play makes an even game, it just means I'm playing someone stronger than me anyway.

However, for a no-time-limits game (IE a lesson), I expect there to not be distractions.

The only time I've ever lost a game on time was when I got into an argument on IRC and forgot I needed to move in the game I'd alt-tabbed away from ...

Yeah, I multitask, and I'm quite happy for my opponents to do so too. I try not to do it in serious-ish games - I'm playing Javaness in the British Online League next week (Fri 11th, 7:30pm British Summer Time, British Room on KGS - come and watch him beat me up for the first time in years) and unless he's playing very, very slowly I doubt I'll look away.

I'm never sure about the etiquette of multi-tasking during OTB games. Clearly, in a reasonably casual club environment, it's eminently acceptable to nip for a drink/to the loo, have a conversation with your neighbour, etc. (In my case, stop to rearrange all the other players into pairs ... whatever it takes.) But is it OK for me, when playing a really slow opponent, to start reading? I usually have ebooks on the PDA I record my games on, and it's just so easy to push the button so the screen's a book instead of the game, while I wait for them to play ... it feels awfully rude, but it also feels awfully tempting.
