This game actually bumped me up two ranks, to 15k.

I know there were a couple of mistakes, like where I played out a ladder and gave my opponent a bunch of extra influence (move 101 should have been N11 instead of M11), but I still wanted a review to see if anything else was amiss in my play.

Hello there,

First of all, there must be a mistake somewhere with your levels, either you are not 17k or your rival wasn't 9k. You should have got 9 stones and you still won with 5... weird if not impossible. So my guessing is that you are better than 17 kyu but your rank is still not updated and your opponent didn't exploit your weaknesses as expected.

As a general advice, you tend to make to much hanes without deffending any of them. Leaving too many cutting points lead you to some bad situations. After move 88, you are left with 5 undefended cutting points. Exploiting them ends up with something being killed (like your ladder..). I would have played move 82 at p8.
The same happens after move 133, you are left with a weak wall with many undefended cutting points. Move 134 should have been played around F11.

On the other hand, you make some forcing moves, such as A4. Realise this: if you, around 16k, have guessed it, your rival will have too. Therefore, he will answer anyway and you won't gain anything from it. However, if you save it for a future Ko, it is a very strong threat and a usefull technique. If there is no ko, you won't lose/gain anything anyway.

I'm at work so I can't make a proper review on the file, but correcting these mistakes should gain you a few stones in strength. Be specially aware of undefended cutting points

One small side note: At the end of the game the w stones in lower right corner were marked dead, which is obviously wrong. Since this makes 30 pts difference the result should have been W+18.5 instead.

My opponent marked them as dead and I didn't check to see if they were alive or not. You are correct, I shouldn't have won.

BTW, at the end of the game Black has a double atari at F-09. :)

Always fill in the dame before ending play.
