I am looking for a good tsumego app for my phone. I have noticed that most of them require you to purchase problems. Anyone know of any free tsumego apps? Or which app gives you the most bang for the buck? I already have smartgo kifu but it only has 2000 problems on a number of subjects with a wide range of difficulty so I don't find it to be the best for problems.

I have done the cho chi kun problems and they are great but I sometimes want that interactivity of a program.

The wbaduk app is free and has lots* of problems.

*though if 2000 is "only" maybe not enough for you; it has 2633 at a range of levels.

Which ones do you like the best. Xgoo seems great but they aren't divided by skill level or anything right?

If you do not mind to spend literally very little for the app itself, I can recommend GoGrinder, which costs 0,75€. You can easily add new collections (I think it even has tipps on where to get free collections and you can also add the whole collection of goproblems.com someway) and it even explains how the sgf must be like if you want to make your own sgfs. Although on the last bit I must warn you a little: I've been doing that with my edition of 1001 Life and Death problems (for my personal use only, of course) and it takes a lot of time to convert the problems into sgf format and it is actually a very boring task.
Because of that, I recently switched to TsumegoPro. This app comes for free with some problems of different levels (about 50 of each of the three or four different levels) and you buy new collections for 1€. One collection contains between about 200 and 300 problems if I remeber that correctly. I think the price is very reasonable. At this moment, I got all or most of the problems (I have 1.300 now) available for Tsumegopro for much less than 10€ - so if you compare that to a book, it is still very cheap. The only downer here is that - as far as I know - you cannot add your own collections. But I guess 1.300 problems of varying levels (not only on life and death but also on tesuji) will already get you quite far.

Both apps work very nicely and I like them both very much, although I use TsumegoPro more at the moment since it has way more problems than GoGrinder has right now. Also, both apps rotate the problems and change the colours frequently. That's why I personally prefer to use them over books in which there is a high probability that you remember the problem, not the solution (although I still have to fight just clicking through the moves instead of reading ahead. But that's on another sheet of paper.. ).

On my iPhone I am happy with EasyGo. It can import problem collections as zip files and it is easy to edit your own problems. euro 10.99 though for the full version.

XGoo is a very nice app, but it looks like is no longer in development so it's a gamble will it work on next iOS iterations. It works now, looks very nice and has quite big database of actual international games, however - no tsumego has been added since 06.2013 and there are no updates from Chinese A-League since 24.12.2013.

Overall I like it but at this moment I would think twice about buying it because of lack o updates in the last months. And yes, problems are not divided in any way, just an "infinite" list. (Same thing with games, and please be warned - there is no full editor nor export option).
For tsumego training and editing I would recommend EasyGo (with fuseki search now!) is really great app as already mentioned above. Every app is different and has different set of features, hard to tell which is "the best one".
If you don't need a tsumego editor but just simple training tool then other apps should work just fine.

Easygo would be the best hands down if I had a trove of good sgf problem files, which I don't. Do you know where I can get quite a few?

I have found that I really like weiqidb for doing tsumego. As tommy said the interface isn't very complex or aesthetically pleasing as can be. But I am not focusing on aesthetics when I want to do go problems. It is very simple to use and gives you a whopping 6400+ problems for $4. You can also try out a few problems for free. Problems mainly focus on L&D but there are some tesuji problems mixed in too. The only issue I have with it is that sometimes there is only one path to the right answer that is deemed correct when you could alter a move or two and get the same result. Also I like that there aren't any super ddk problems that many other apps, while the beginning problems aren't difficult they at least have you use your head a little bit. So overall I would suggest this app to anyone who wants do some problems on their phone.
