I never had to beat such a focus on Big Moyo (TM). So it hit me pretty much by surprise. Advice needed! :study:

I think your biggest problem is that you click click click, territory territory territory whilst feeling good...and only then realise that you're tens of points behind and white's centre is really hard to invade.

Moves like 39 epitomise this - the shimari is tiny! You can't win this game unless you destroy some of white's centre, and the correct way to do it is to intrude earlier. If white blocks, you get the shimari later anyway. If white doesn't, you trade a loss in the bottom right (not that you stand to lose much...) for white's loss in the centre. You cannot win by taking all four corners without thinking about what white is doing, and instead by threatening to push into white's centre you must expand your sides to close the game margin.

I think move 33 is an important turning point. Why not double hane? White has no good cut, if he does cut you attack him whilstmaking a strong group in the centre. And if he backs down, it is easier to push into the centre.

Whatever you do, you have to push to the centre earlier. It is clearly not enough to take the sides, so forget that goal, and keep it as a secondary goal - take more territory whilst pushing in, don't let him reduce your territory whilst pushing out.

My two cents: I'm a bad player myself (see rank!), but I saw immediately that 39 was too small a move and gave white a chance to shore up the last huge weakness in his framework. Instead of the enclosure, maybe start invading here. I say this only because an invading black stone has two possible directions to run if you decide to turn it into a reduction instead. I'm the worst counter evar, but judging by the end of the game count, a reduction would've been enough to beat him. After 40 it seems like his framework is extremely difficult to invade.

Was the O10 exchange necessary? It seems like it's a better result for white than black.

Instead of 41, how about a deep invasion? Crazy, I know, and I wouldn't able to pull it off. I only say this because 41 + a couple more moves lets white strengthen his bottom corner as well - now his whole right side is a nice big wall to let any invasions smash their heads into.

On a side note, I swear I've seen your handle on KGS before. Or somewhere. Or nowhere?

Hey Sholvar.

I've added a few comments to the opening. Not too much new, Amnal pretty much said it all already. I have only played 2 games of go in the past 6 months so take them with a pinch of salt. It is meant to be like riding a bike though right? Not sure what weird combination of exercise, productive work and caffeine motivated me to venture into the world of go again but I guess it can only be a good thing.

I've read all your comments and appreciate them, guys. (Yes even a Guy over 10 stones weaker can be of help finding your own weakness. Don't heistate to critizise the stronger players. The are also humans and make childishly stupid mistakes! :blackeye: )

I try to learn something out of this, that I can apply in other situations, too. (Probably this game will not find it's way into fuseki books, hehe)

- For destroying Moyo as for making Moyo the 4th line might be a good way to go.
- If the opponent has the bigger weakness attack it
- Fight for meaning not just points

correct me and add if you like.

I think that things went bad starting at move 11.

After move 10, the board looks like this:

Both players have choosen fighting openings, so influence will be very important. Every stone that white has played is on the 4th rank. But black has more than half of his stones on the 3rd rank. Black is getting behind in influence. Now is not the time to play a 2nd rank move, unless it is needed for life.

IMHO, black should play like this:

Also, 177 at O3 might have saved your goup unconditionally.
