I don't think they're recommending based on your rating, but rather based on the fact that you've purchased it.

purchased, not purchased, own, don't own -- it doesn't matter. If you touch a star, they think you're interested in it, and they say so when you follow the "why was this recommended?" link.

It isn't touching the star that does it. Viewing the item puts it on the list. I view something and I get recommendations for like products. But that is just corporate advertising and sales at its best...

would work for me. But for book reviews, what's recommended for beginners wouldn't be recommended for strong dan players so reducing a recommendation to one dimension is alway problematical.
