Hey all, I haven't posted a game in a while and I haven't been improving much (been bouncing between 15k and 16k for the past 30 games or so), so I thought I'd see what I'm missing. I don't want to take up too much time, so I'll list the things I see on a quick review. If there are other glaring mistakes you see, please tell me (hah, that rhymes!). I did a lot of things badly this game, even to a 15-16k's eyes!

So big picture questions. How could I use white's weak group more effectively? Not counting my mistakes that let him live, how can I gain while attacking him? Do you think if white hadn't played some weird gote moves that either lost him a point or didn't do anything, could he have won? Now that I think about it - you think maybe he did that on purpose?

6: Dumb (I facepalmed as soon as I clicked), but at least I fixed it when he did this sequence again -.-
56: Probably the reason I lost the fight here. I think M3 is better. N4 was my second instinct, but it didn't end well. So. Third time's the charm, maybe?
72: I considered the kick in the game, but I was afraid of forcing white to destroy my group's base. Now I think that's a way better result, especially since he did it anyways and killed the group in question!
76: What was I thinking?!
102: Dumb. I have this stupid habit of cutting this type of shape on instinct.
128: Dangerous sequence for white to connect if I didn't do this, I think. Am I wrong?
148: L14?
220: B16 seems to work.

P.S.: Yeah, I think white could've won. I missed the last end game move. He let me take two points from him there. He took one point from himself earlier. He let me take one or two points that I shouldn't have. I think the result should've been W+1.5? It looks more and more like he let me win, despite his plays earlier in the game.

Hope this is helpful:

14: Did you think about Q6? It seems like a chance to seal white in, which is always very big.

44: You group is still weak, you have to think about defense and cannot attack yet. My first instinct would be N5. If white plays there, it is a 'hane at the head of two stones'.

56: It seems that M5 would win you the fight. Also a 'first instinct move' because of the strong bamboo shape.

72: I like this move with the intention to seal white in

82 and 84: Too small, you should extend from your wall, like D11

88: Too close to your own thickness, C13 looks good

98: D14 would be the normal move here. If you want to attack white directly, I think H17 is better

108: Too small. What about bE13, wE14, bG15, wF15, bC12?

110: Second line, for what? It is not attacking white and it is not taking territory. Not a good move.

Quick thoughts.

6: Maybe the reason you made a facepalm move is that you spent six second thinking about it? ;)

18: Not horrible, but it looks like you're trying to kill - first make all your groups healthy, then seal him in, and as step 3 start reducing his eyespace.

22: Did it occur to you before you played it that this would be gote?

42: First, your group here is pretty solid; I don't think it needs an extension for safety. If you want to make a gote tenuki, play the emptiest place on the board - D10. But second, you should probably add another move at N5. Making 5th line territory is great! Letting him get a hane, on the other hand, is double-plus ungood.

44: This is where you lost the fight, imo. He's peeping at your cutting point! You want a move that threatens W and keeps your stones connected.

60: Did you notice that the ladder doesn't work?

62: Good that you noticed that this guy was gasping for life! Now I believe that if W hanes the other way, he gets a ko, which lowers the value of saving the poor group. Note that all of white's moves in this corner are the definition of aji keshi; wasted threats to kill the corner.

68: What would you have done if W ignored this and played K3?

76: He's peeping! If you have a cutting point that you have been worried about, and he plays a move that is suspiciously close to your cutting point, double check to make sure that your groups are still connected.

90: Why not at C5?

94: There are no life and death issues involved, and an entire corner is unplayed. Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to step away from the second line.

98: You always follow the kick with an extension to d14/c14.

102: Not dumb! What was question was, after cutting, letting him connect. Not sure whether the right way to do that is 104@ E16 or 106@ F14.

108: Staying connected is never bad, but here there may be other things that are more good; don't you think your corner has plenty of eyespace?

110: Why the second line?

160: Think about G15.

172: Push once at H13 to give yourself an extra liberty, then start reducing his liberties. If you've given up on saving your group, this is a pretty useless move... it bravely separates some dame from some other dame.

180: Why?

Congratulations on your win and thanks for posting a serious game.

I think mostly black plays too many moves near thickness, both near black's and white's. Also, for much of the game, white's group in the upper right is very weak, but both players ignore this. If black gets a good attack on it at any of several points, the game could end much sooner.
