Hi,

I have recently discovered a great love for long games of go online. If I am on KGS I will most likely have an open game marked 'Long Game'.

If you would like to take part in this new experience of online go with me, please accept the challenge. I may take a long time between moves, I may time out or disco from inactivity.

Some games may not take very long at all, but the option is there.

s/n: Apoah

You might find DGS better for this.

nah, turn based games aren't the same as long [time setting] games.

usually, turn based games become just blitz games in slow motion.

when I have time for it, I'd much prefer a long time setting (30-60 min each or more) in one sitting. No "Mickey Mouse" time settings for me :)

I find this to be one of the hardest parts about playing turn based games.

This is exactly right. I was introduced to the game and learned how to play at OGS and still have a few active games, but I have really dropped out of playing turn-based go in favor of real time go.

Long time settings online allow me to apply a great deal of focus to 1 or 2 games a day. I have found that my enjoyment of each game has greatly increased playing this way.

The down side is that I hardly ever get to finish a game because my opponent usually escapes after they realize that I might just use the majority of my 3 hour time limit.

Please buddy me and look for the open game on KGS if you are interested in a possible all day match. The extra long time limit is because with such a long game, there is ample opportunity to get distracted by household chores, kids, etc during the day.

In his last post, he mentions a 3 hour time limit.

"Blitz games is slow motion." That's a great way of putting it. I know there are probably some players who use turn-based go as a chance to really dig down and take the time to play their best moves, but for people who have 20 simultaneous games going, it's hard to believe everyone is doing that. We all like to get the best resistance from our opponents, but there is no good way to insure that, even with turn-based go.

When I think about the time limits I care about, it's a little hard to justify to myself playing online games slower than what it is typically played in AGA tournaments. (say, 45 minutes main time + 5 periods of 30 seconds Japanese byoyomi.) Also, considering that the Korean Prime Minister's Cup is 30 3x30, and that a lot of insei in Asia use that for training games, it's a little hard for me to swallow the indulgence that I need more time than an insei. I suppose I read slower, but that's really beside the point. Or maybe it's not? As an amateur, I suppose I can do what I want and I should not begrudge anyone else doing what they want. Any way we can get in games is better that getting in no games, I guess.
