The teaching mode more or less presumes that the teacher plays White. This causes great problems when the pupil shall play as White because then the teacher cannot use take control and tools fully and properly. How can this be solved?

I have tried to take Black as the teacher and it creates the aforementioned problems. So I have also tried to take White as the teacher and let the pupil Black make a pass at move 1 but the best that can develop from this is: The teacher with the white stones makes the first play, i.e. colours on the board are reversed. Stupid. Starting a game with 2 passes does not work at all because then scoring mode is started.

So what can I do except for letting both players play with wrong colours?

there is a option in tools called "set players" you can set white and black players, cant you just then put yourself as black?

btw this option is available in demonstrations, I don't know if it is available in teaching games.

Good hint, as far as it does work. I have just tried it in Teaching Mode. It is nasty though: After each interruption by Take Control and teaching in that mode, the teacher needs to set again who is the black and who is the white player. (Pressing Continue Game is not necessary then; then game continues upon reassigning the players to the colours.)

The way it works at the moment allows for the greatest flexibility. During a game, the teacher can let the pupil continue with the other colour.

However, for the more frequent case of the pupil using the same colour during the entire game and many Take Control interruptions for teaching, it is nasty and wasting time. Therefore it would be nice if there were another tool "Continue Game With Same Previous Players".

I think the assumption that the teacher is always White is fundamentally flawed. How is a pupil supposed to learn how to play fusekis as White if his teacher has no choice but to force him to play Black.

This "feature" in KGS has bugged me for a while :)

i think there is not a lot of content that focuses on how white should play, the mindset and the game feels totally different playing as white.

Which is exactly why the teacher should be able to play Black.

Student passes first, then teacher plays first move as white. Not the best but does work.
