I haven't done any online go activity last month (playing/posting) mainly because I started playing some League of Legends (lol).

Anyone here plays the game too? I play on the EU servers as Sirkka666.
I like that fact that it is a team game (5 vs 5)

The one thing I noticed however is the extremely bad behavior of lots of people on the lol servers. I aways thought KGS had quite a lot of trolls, spammers, escapers, and "little children". But in lol you have to be lucky not to have an escaper on your team and if they don't escape they usually start curcing on team mates, or bashing on the opponents team in the chat. After what I have seen in the chat on lol, even the worst KGS users can be considered well-mannered.

I guess Go people are more well-behaved than I thought.

You can see all manner of emotions in public team games. It is caused by stress and misguided belief that result of the match "matters". This fact of mattering is strengthened with all sorts of statistics of win/loss ratios that tell others just exactly how poor player you are if you keep losing. "But it wasn't my fault! The system just keeps pairing me up with n00bs! In good team I would surely be top player!"

One of the reasons why I prefer 1v1 games is that you don't have to play the blamegame.

I wouldn't call it misguided. What matters is after all a matter of choice, and people have to chose something to make up for the utter meaninglessness of their existence.

As for team games I don't even play bridge...

That's funny, I saw "utter meaninglessness of their existence" and thought "Where's Helel these days, I miss him" and then realised it was your post :P

I played league of legends. I still have it installed and everything. I just haven't played for a long time. I played more so because my cousins and brother were playing it, not because I really enjoyed it so much... mot that it wasn't fun...

I've played it a bit, mostly with Zilean. I'm still pretty low-kyu, but I have some basics down, at least. I tend to play with people who've played a lot though, so with the matchmaking I'm usually the worst person on the team.

I didn't realize it was free to download and play!
Nice game, now that I've gotten a hang of it. Basically it's important to extend from atari that those minions and enemy champions pose. Good shape and positioning go a long way.

Same name on the american servers. Although, I do not really know where to place myself. I've been around it since June/July'09. I think it's fun. Once you get too serious about it though, you realize, it's almost always more fun with a team of individuals you get along with. This team HAS to have some fun losing the games as much as they do winning. Also, this game is just plain frustrating at times.

On a final note, I'm pretty much waiting for "DotA" 2 to be released, so I can see where that leads to.

- Yup. Especially the part about losing a won game. It often happens when you play support or some other role that doesn't have good pushing capabilities. Last match I was Zilean and everything went smooth. We were ahead in kills for almost the whole time, with only one feeder on our side. Then the strangest thing happened: there just wasn't a player in our team who would want to push into enemy base and finish the game. The enemy team wasn't strong enough to wipe us out either. Whenever someone saw enemy peek in somewhere, part of team would rush there and half of team teleport base. We even killed the neutral monsters a couple of times to get the buff, but I guess the players didn't understand the concept of attacking in team. The game lasted 55 minutes. We lost, with +15 score in team kills to our favor.

Yeah, I've played it a bit myself (Blitzcrank Main)

A lot of folks have a terrible attitude, but if you find a group of friends it gets a lot better.

My Handle is 5h4p3.

Oh snap, a blitz(crank) player! This champ is so underrated right now. He's a lot better with the latest buffs. Invite me in some of your 5s. Going to have to friend list you just for being a blitz player though. How do you build him nowadays? I can't get past the good old double catalyst builds due to the natural synergy with his passive. I guess old triforce build is still probably good enough too.

Currently, I am working towards being better with Lux. She's a lot more fun than her champion description gives her credit for.

Haha, yeah, with the recent buffs, I had a Xin player say once "That Overdrive is just OP... it NEVER goes off!" He's totally underrated, and totally badass

My personal build of choice is the

Manamune->boots->Glacial Shroud->Archangel's Staff

EDIT: I suppose I should include my masteries/runes which are kinda odd

I go 1-17-12 picking up all the mana bonuses and then the 1 in offense for exhaust. I take Exhaust and Cleanse (Overdrive is an awesome escape skill, don't need ghost/flash, so cleanse gives great survivability)

Runes:

Yellow: Mana Regen
Red: Armor Pen
Blue: Magic Resist
Quints: Health

It's been pretty awesome for me.

I'll hit you up when I get back to my gaming comp.

(I never really got into lux, the cooldown on her skills is SO long)

Rrrresurection!

So, between this thread, and a lot of people online talking about how awesome this game is, I've given it a shot..

I've now played one game against bots with other players, 2 games against bots without other players, and one game against other players..

And I've discovered..

It's pretty cool.

Maybe worth wasting time on.

I get the feeling that this is the sort of game that is way more fun with other people you know.

Anyone still playing out there?

I play this fairly regularly (at least as often as I play go). I'm "Asaret". Usually I play Amumu and jungle.

Just had an epic loss.

Our mid Ashe split 5 minutes into the game, because leaving is better than I dunno, playing..

So they moved to double mid, and I held them solo for about 10 minutes before they started 4 manning me.

Pretty embarrassing that my own team couldn't figure out what was going on, and make some headway.

I've been playing Nasus, he makes a great line in the sand, if you'll pardon my pun. Summoner name is Rakael, and I've finally unlocked Nasus using nothing but all my lost games to do it.

I've got 3 wins, and a lot more losses, but I've got a pretty solid Nasus build going on, but I still know it's going to be a rough game any time I'm one of the first to make level 18.

Still not real solid on team strategy other than the fact that I can hold a 2 man lane solo if I'm cautious, and even pick up some kills if they get foolish. Otherwise, I push if I'm in a 2 man, and hold if I'm solo, and try not to let my turrets die. Right now, I've been using Heal, Fortify, to give me time to respond to dying towers late in the midgame, and to give me a slight damage boost vs minions.

The bane of my existence is a good Udyr player, as they're one of the few champions who can stand toe to toe with Nasus when he's gone Anubis.

Which makes me wonder, since I've looked at Udyr a bit, isn't he a bit heavy hitting for such a strong health level? I mean, Anubis hits hard, and his health is enhanced, but Nasus only gets to be ultimate for like, 15 seconds, Udyr hits fast and hard and does so with at least as much health as Nasus' ulti.

Not to say he's unkillable, but he's one of the few things that makes me call for a second in a lane.

I'll add folks to my friends list, and hopefully see you on.

Missed this the first time it came around...

I play on-and-off with a number of different friends, and it's definitely more fun if you do have friends to play with -- unless those friends are super bad. ;)

Nice to see another tank player. :) So many of my friends refuse to play anything but carries that I end up filling the tank role quite often. At least I like playing them.

Main I've played is Mordekaiser (love the metal lord), but play plenty of the tanks (Rammus is probably my favorite), and also been playing a decent amount of Nasus and Poppy recently.

Edit - Oops, could have mentioned this before: play as Squigglinator and usually play later in the evening/night Mountain Time.

Still having fun with the game. Wish I weren't working so much for the next two weeks, as I'll only be around very early morning or early afternoon for the next few weeks.

Today's game, the Udyr player on my team spent half the game asking how 'gud' we were, the other half killing folks, and was level 14 when we closed out the game 15 kills up by utter steamroll.

This was definitely the most trash talkey game I've been in, with most of it coming from my team's Udyr, who apparently got in a grudge match with the opposing team's Udyr.

Still, was fun for me, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why my teamates randomly left lanes empty to come to where I was.

Is that normal, for the person who's soloing to just wander off their lane and come down to a 2 man lane where there are already 2 people hanging out? I mean, I can see it if something's gone terribly wrong, but in my last game, a couple of the players would just wander off their lane, leaving enemy champions pushing up it, to go hang out with gangs of other players.

Given that Nasus fits my playing style well, can anyone suggest other champions I should try out? Udyr, clearly, has a lot of similarities. Is there anyone else?

Trash talk...welcome to the leauge. ;) You're going to run into people who do this a lot, and other people who are just jerks (sandbaggers, etc.). Either way, keep it friendly on your end and you'll meet plenty of nice people. :P

That does not sound very normal to me. The biggest reason for a solo lane person to come down to another lane is try and attempt a gank. If they're just coming down there to hang out, then they are not doing it right. The other big reason is if you really want to push a lane, but usually that's not until later in the game when you want to be rolling around as a team anyway.

You could try Renekton (Nasus' brother). Another couple of possibilities are Malphite or Nunu. Personally, I'd also recommend giving Mordekaiser a try - he's a favorite of mine. :P

Kind of hard to recommend specific champions. My biggest recommendation is to try as many champions as you can; especially at the lower levels. Have you purchased any of the champions besides Nasus?

I actually think I got all the way to summoner level 30 before I unlocked any champions. I just kept playing the different champions they made free from week to week.
