It's probable that many of you will have seen this video, but just in case I would like to post the link here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=012mgBzCLnI

The game is from the 45th NHK Cup (1998), and features Fujisawa Hideyuki against Yugawa Mitsuhisa, with commentary from the one-and-only Takemiya Masaki.

I don't want to spoil the pleasure for those who have yet to see it, but I will say that the game is full of beautiful moves and will keep you in suspense to the very end.

Yes, a beautiful game. People might be interested to know that Takemiya's assistant in the commentary is Umezawa Yukari (1-dan then) of Hikaru no Go fame. And the time keeper is Kobayashi Izumi, daughter of Kobayashi Koichi and wife of Cho U.

I was amused by how easy it is to follow Go commentary in a foreign language. (-Ko desu ka? -Ko desu. -Sou desu ne.) Great game, thanks for posting. One question about the game:

Did he resign because of a precise calculation of threats, or just knowing that Fujisawa had so many local threats?

Pretty sure he resigned because ignoring the ko threat is too big, but if White responds to the ko threat and Black plays, Black can pretty much ignore anything, kill the group, and win the game.

Thanks Tami!

Shuko sensei's perception of the key points in the middle game was, as always, impressive.

I particularly enjoyed Takemiya's response to move 113 - 'kakou ii!' ('So cool!')

Thanks for posting it.

I liked that the game had a sleeve tesuji. :D Was there any audible comment when they noticed it?
