Well, despite remarkably poor and careless play on my part, I somehow won against Marcus (who may have been a bit distracted at the time). Any comments or reviews would be greatly appreciated.

lindentree(W) vs. Marcus(B), W + 67.5

18: This feels small. There are three other corners, so there must be something bigger. I'd leave the aji.

22-26: I like white's choice of joseki. The usual continuation is for black to play 27 somewhere around the side star point stone to attack C12. Because of white's position on the lower left side, that may not be to practical for black. OTOH, if black does tenuki, a future white play around there grabs easy territory and leaves black feeling a bit unsettled.

28: As with 18, it feels small. White has spent two moves turning a 0-point group into a 3-point group. Not a good investment of two stones at this temperature, IMO. Black could press down with E7 - in sente - and most of the benefit of K4 is gone.

96: If black exploits the weaknesses at D7, H16 and F17, he should live easily. Then you have two weak groups and L8 is a monster.

98: How were you planning on responding if black had noticed F17?

122: You don't have time for this. It separates two groups that are almost impossible to kill, and it is gote. Meanwhile, you have two eyeless groups that need help. How about O14 instead? If black had played just a bit more aggressively ( Q9 instead of O9, or maybe a hane at N14 ) you would have been toast.
Even after you manage to connect by killing K8/L8/M8, your upper right group still should have died. Black made it more difficult for himself to kill you around move 200, then gave up the kill-with-a-ko by not playing 249 at R13.
If Marcus polishes his attacking technique just a bit, he will crush you when you keep leaving groups hanging like this. :)

I've won against Kirby, after some missed chances by both sides.

Ignoring for the moment why black would make such a bizarre offer, and also ignoring the issue of whether or not it is legal, should white accept?

I thought about this for a while. It was a helpful analytical tool, even if I didn't reach an "Aha, it's obvious!" moment. The difficult point, to me, is that while clearly the stone at D10 is worth more than Q5 (not that Q5 was a mistake, but it served its purpose by allowing me to settle the corner), the aji of Q5 can be neatly wiped off the board in a single move, while D10 will still have aji even after I add a stone locally. Or, put a third way: if neither stone were on the board, it looks to me like d10 would still be a good play for white, even though I would be able to defend immediately, while q5 would be a dense play for black.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that d10 is a valuable stone with cool local follow-ups, and q5 is a worthless stone with hot local follow-ups.

But maybe I'm talking myself in circles.

Also, does anyone know how to contact Kivi ( aka Kodomo on KGS )? He hasn't been on either site in weeks.

It was an interesting game, and I defeated Lorill by resign.

I think we have a problem. You said EST is GMT-4, but all sources say that it is GMT-5. Therefore our game, that was scheduled to start at 2pm GMT+2, and should start in 36 minutes, is according to my calculations 7 AM EST and not 8 AM EST.

Well, we'll soon find out.

Apparently I was right, and CSamurai's timezone is indeed GMT-5 and not GMT-4.

My apologies for the time confusion.

We ended up playing an hour late, I think my confusion was due to daylight savings time timing, as, if we had played a week earlier, I would have been on time.

I'm withdrawing from the tournament because of lack of time to play a serious game. Here's what I sent LiKao:

Hi LiKao,
I'm traveling and studying in Japan at the moment, and I think it might be best if I just withdraw from the tournament. I haven't had time to play a single game in a few weeks now, and it doesn't look like I'll be any less busy in the coming weeks/months.
I'm sorry for pulling out like this, but I just can't find the time to play right now. I should be back home next year, so I hope I get a chance to play a rematch with you in the next L19 tournament. Anyway, good luck in the next round.
Hushfield
Thanks for the good times, and I should be back home for the next tournament, so I hope to see you all again by that time.

Sorry I've been gone everyone. Instead of wasting space discussing the problems I've been going through in my personal life, I'll just go straight to business.

1. @L19 I've updated the brackets: http://ywchoe.com/L19.html - If there's a mistake, let me know and I'll fix it up.
2. @stalkor: Took care of it. I'll also be going to Skype and KGS again, sorry for my absence.
3. @magicwand: I'll make my move in a few minutes.
4. @L19 Again, sorry.

Thanks! Do you know (or does anyone else) what's going on in the loser's bracket? Wondering (a) where recent losers such as myself or Kirby should be appearing and (b) why the losers brackets is so far behind? No good having the main draw played out the losers bracket 3 or 4 rounds behind.
