The latest rumour is that there will be NO accouncement, which kind of infers that there will be no event..
Still, I await tomorrow with interest

It seems Don Morris was involved in the Mind Sports Festival in London, I take this to be rather a bad sign...

I don't know whether on a Go forum everyone will be familiar with the goings-on in the chess world. if you are interested in more of the details then follow the links from Raymond Keene's wikipedia page where you get some of the details of a serious Mind Sports Olympiad controversy. Don Morris's signature can be seen on the key document to authorise the withdrawal of £50,000 that caused the incident.

While it can be difficult to know the motives of an individual in a "He said, She said" when something has gone wrong, it doesn't look like decisions were being made either in the interests of the event or the sponsors so I wouldn't choose Don Moris to make any financial decisions on my behalf.

The moral of the story: "Don't send a chess player to do a go player's job."

Well at least I escape being burnt at the stake for witchcraft :)

It is certainly possible to put on an event in a fairly short period of time but it is amazing how disorganised some of these people can be...

I suspect that the biggest problem that they have is the IOC makes the host country agree not to hold another major sporting event in the same year. In China it is easy to bypass these rules...

...however, I know that the smaller Mind Sports Olympiad (mainly for all-rounders) has permission to be held in London, in August. So I can envisage a WMSG 2 event being held but much later in the year perhaps October / November. Which is what the rumours were back in 2009 when I first heard about the first World Mind Sports games,

Just found a more recent post although no new information:

from http://www.usacheckers.com/

"There is no specific information available regarding the venue and details for the forthcoming 2nd World Mind Sports Games scheduled to be held next August 2012. The WCDF have an agreement with the FMJD that we (Checkers) will receive 20% of the available places allocated to draughts"

No news from the poker front. With Victoria Coren taking second there might eventually be a mention in her poker Column.

Even their own press release doesn't mention anything other than poker
http://www.fieldmarketing.com/articles/ ... s-details/

Even knowing the event happened it is tough to find stories:
