Re: How long does it take you to read a go book?
It depends on the book as well as the level of difficulty. Some books are much more dense such as dictionaries. For books like the elementary go series it's usually between a few days and a week depending on my familiarity with the subject. Problem books can vary from half an hour to days or ...

Re: Japanese earthquake
Does anyone know of any major Japanese news outlets that also have English translations? Specifically, I am looking for coverage of the quake from Japaneses sources (in English).
I know a couple places for reading Korean news in English (i.e: m ), but I don't know any similar Japanese sources ...

Re: Study plan shenanigans - and partner?
My study plan is just memorizing games and solving tsumego. Although I'm not interested in joining you with your plan, I am interested in how it works out for you. If you would like to play on a weekly basis or have study sessions where we could discuss games or joseki on kgs I'd be happy to do that.

Re: Perception's Journal
In the last week I've only played two games, both face to face. I lost one due to a large mistake late in the game, I won the second game. I had some computer issues the past few days so I couldn't play online even if I had wanted to.

Re: Perception's Journal
In the past week I haven't done as much as I was planning to do.
First, I underestimated how much time it would actually take to do all the problems in Cho Chikun's Encyclopedia of Life and Death. I just finished it last night, that's 861 problems in 7 days.

Re: For those who don't like tsumego
I mostly agree with Dusk Eagle. Most of the time tsumego are either boring or frustrating for me. I do it even though I don't enjoy it because it helps me to improve. I enjoy playing just as much as (maybe more than) studying though.

Re: Endgame problem books?
Have you looked at The Endgame by Ogawa and Davies? Chapter 2 on counting has 9 half-board problems, chapter 4, The Macroendgame has 9 full-board problems, and chapter 5 has 20 full board problems from 2 of Ogawa's games. There are also quite a few smaller endgame tesuji problems in chapter 3.

Re: Getting past your OK plateau
I do have books. I have the both the Lee Changho Life and Death and Tesuji series and I have 5 Japanese books (two of them being from the nihon kiin dan level series). I've worked through them all multiple times except for the problems which are too hard for me to solve and the ones from the nihon ...

Re: Getting past your OK plateau
I'm willing to do things I don't like to do to try to improve. I know tsumego is good for improving reading ability and improving reading ability is important for getting stronger, I don't like tsumego but I'm willing to spend a few hours on it every day (as long as I have no other commitments) to ...

Re: Getting past your OK plateau
I would feel much more discouraged if I thought that no matter how much effort I put into something I couldn't get better. I can control, to some extent, how much time and effort I put into something. If I felt that my ability to improve at something was out of my control then why bother putting ...
