It appears to work for chess, I see no reason why it shouldn't for Go.
There is a research paper that uses the interpretation of a game as a Markovian model and a comparison with Stockfish to analyse all 26'000 games that the world champions played. The prediction of the winning chances for the ...

Great to see you back! And with such an improved mindset. Congrats for having overcome the agony. I hope the same happens to Fedya.
Enjoy the ride, it will take you further!

Re: Does 9x9 translate well into 19x19?
I'm pretty sure some aspects of my game have been improved. Spotting corner shapes for example. I find 9x9 very enjoyable on a mobile device. I'd play it even if there were no transferable skills to 19x19.

edit: oops, I can't count to ten. My post doesn't make sense.
I believe the miraculous stuff already happens within Chinese rules: Without komi, the score difference between the players is usually odd, so it should not make a difference, whether komi 7.5 or 8.5 is used.

How do these old games get discovered? Are they included in ancient game commentaries, hardly anybody has seen?

Re: Why is this tsumego solution correct?
There is sometimes a tacit cascade:
1) Find a solution to live with points
2) Find a solution to live with seki
3) Find a solution to live with ko where you take the ko first
4) Find a solution to live with ko where the opponent takes the ko first
If there is no solutions for 1) you have to find ...

Get a second hiba board. Or put a cardboard box next to it. Or put a cardboard box over it, if nothing else helps.

@xela: your stats are biased because if I counted correctly,
The two players have an identical rating in 62% of the games.
White is at least 1 rank stronger in 24% of the games.
Black is at least 1 rang stronger in 14% of the games.
(And sorry for derailing the thread further.)

I remember! Thanks for bringing back some childhood memories.
And I was secretly hoping that someone analyses this with a bot (the same with Lee Sedol's ladder game).

Re: How is your positional judgement? Game 26
I prefer white for the following reasons:
+ Black's cutting group is heavy and cuts two rather strong white groups. It can be attacked for benefit and profit, turning the top into territory, getting rid of the bad aji of F17 and wrecking blacks right side. Maybe white doesn't get all of these, but ...

A pity nobody showed them how to hold the stones (I kind of hope it is deliberate, but I doubt it). And I don't think that that bump was a good move. On the other hand, everybody makes mistakes..

Re: What about the komi discussion, now that KataGo is comin
A single 40:60 statement isn't worth a lot in my understanding. The question is what happens if you lower the komi. If you lower the komi by one and end up with 70:30, the original komi was a fairer one.
I don't think it is possible to achieve 50:50 winning chance anyway. And the stronger the bots ...
