Re: Tokyo for the next month, 17K OGS, salon? Finging games?

I will be working in Tokyo near Yoyogi park for the next 5 weeks. Would really like to find somewhere to play. Googling I can only find posts from stronger (1-9 kyu) western players. Any advice on where I can easily find other people closer to my rank. I don't mind playing handicap games but don't ...

Re: why do tsumegos have exactly one solution?

Some creators of tsumego problems seem to think that each problem must have exactly one correct first move to be called a "problem" in their opinion.

When I create tsumego problems, they can have zero, one, several or (rarely) all correct first moves because this agrees to the reality in our ...

Sorry for the delay. I overlooked the last Black move. Considered only B5. Now it is hard to find the way to live.

Here White can start a ko with B11. Not really good but better than nothing.

Is this GG? I don't see a way to live. I previously thought E6 might be something, but I now don't think it can work.

Re: Help identifying GO set from Japan

I don't think you could get very much for this set. The stones look like they might be slate and shell, but discolored and of poorer grade (probably jitsuyo).

It is easier to see the stone grade if you put like 20 of them on the board with the grains facing up and take a nice clear photo of them ...

Re: Bots with pro level endgame

A few years ago, when top bots were 5D or so, many people on KGS were claiming that some bots had pro level endgames. It seems to me that Zen lost to Cho Chikun in games 1 and 3, in large part because of endgame mistakes. So I'm just curious whether people were talking nonsense or if bots already ...

The third game seemed a lot like how Lee Sedol won, with a tesuji that the computer simply did not see/expect.

Re: New shell stones, and a care question.

I have seen a lot of stones look like that in Japan because of the intense smoking in go parlors. I don't know if this is caused by smoke, but it could be. I think yellowing is common from overuse and lack of care. If you haven't already, you should try to just clean them with a mild soap and water ...

The cooling system has already been restarted.

I agree that they should stop with those power plants. I think it is the most ridiculous ...

Re: What wood is used for this "antique" floor goban?

Thanks for the reply guys. Just recently another floor goban was for sale. It's even half the price and in better condition. It's just that the legs are weird. They're not really flower-like like most gobans. I'm thinking of buying it instead. What do you guys think? m

What rights do you grant them?

Read the terms of service.
