Re: Komi pie: will it ever become widely used?
I'm delighted my post has generated so much discussion, although I am not sure anyone has been convinced of anything. There's a new Go server BTW, http://Nova.gs and I was told that players can implement komi pie by agreement using chat before the game starts. Perhaps this would be possible ...

Re: Komi pie: will it ever become widely used?
The apparent impetus of original posting is that "The rules of Go should be future proof." I guess by this the poster means that future discoveries about the game should not reveal today's results to have been unfairly advantageous for one side or another. The problem is Go is a deterministic game ...

I am not sure who you think the 'we' is that haven't proved something. I have played thousands of games with existing komi and do not feel that it favors Black or White. So 'I' have 'proven' that 6.5 is fine for amateur play. I do not claim that I can play accurately enough that small ...

Re: Connection games
A one point jump is very resilient, but not always uncuttable. For example,

Black's D4 threatens E5 and also threatens to cut white's one point jump with C5.
Whether Crossway is interesting or not is a matter of personal taste ...

Yes, I thought that might be the case. I'm new here and seek to avoid offending anyone. I believe an abstract game should not be judged based on who invented it.

Re: Komi pie: will it ever become widely used?
Yes, the player who decides which side to play arguably has a theoretical and a practical advantage. So who plays which role must be determined in some fair and impartial manner. The tournament rules could stipulate the methodology that would be involved, for all to understand at the outset. It ...

Here's a game you can play on a Go board. It's called Crossway .

Komi pie: will it ever become widely used?
First of all, I'm not trying to push anyone's buttons here. I seek opinions on a way of implementing komi which could be regarded as "future proof." Before the first stone is placed, one player announces what the komi will be, and the other player decides which side to play. I call this komi pie ...
