Hosting a Go Workshop

a fellow club member posted this on the OGS forums, but I thought L19x19 might also have good suggestions, so I am reposting it here.

Hi there!

There will be a Japan Festival at the Historical Museum in Bern (Switzerland) on the 15th of September 2019 (come and visit!). Now, my local Go club was ...

Re: Review Request: 10k vs. 11k (direction of play)

Thanks to all of you who took the time to look through my game.

For move 44, you could have killed black in the corner with B15. The best black can do is form the L+1, but since you get the next move you can kill it: m

Oh yes, you are quite right. Thanks for pointing me to this page.

Review Request: 10k vs. 11k (direction of play)

This is a game I played last night. I am white (I deleted the name of the other player for privacy reasons). I would appreciate a little bit of analysis from stronger players on direction of play and "big vs. urgent moves". My opponent played some small moves in the beginning and gave me sente ...

Yeah, I was watching on Twitch at the beginning of the endgame and people were saying Lin was up by 15 or 20 points but then I had to go. What happened?

Re: Some Questions about Lizzie/LZ

Do you mean the red bars which go up or down from the middle line? These are "blunder bars", and show how big the mistakes were of the mainline move versus LZ's best move. So a bar down means black made a mistake and the winrate green line goes down, bar up means white made mistake.

oh, okay. The ...

Re: Some Questions about Lizzie/LZ

I have a question about Lizzie's UI. On the win percentage graph, there is also a red line that fluctuates to *some* degree, just like the green line that reflects the actual game. What is the red line? I've never understood what it shows.

Re: World Go Championship 2019

Kind of disappointing for Iyama. It seemed like he was in the lead until he double hane'd instead of cutting. I was sort of expecting a breakthrough for him.

Re: Video: Reviewing with LeelaZero/Lizzie (1st draft)

Uberdude, I thought your content and delivery was good; I appreciated that you weren't reading from a script (as some tutorials do -- they sound very stiff). It sounded to me like you have a very good grasp of Lizzie/LeelaZero AND are able to convey that (in addition to your Go knowledge). Others ...

Yeah, I was also thinking something along those lines. An "unusual" discrepancy.

Re: Kasparov agrees on Mickey Mouse

We need shorter limits to draw in people who would otherwise pass an eye over mindsports and longer limits for the limitlessness of go. One speed of play shan't push out the other is along the lines of where I'm thinking...

Sorry in advance for the wall of text.

This discussion on time limits ...

Re: Can I have some advice on this weird (and short) game?

If you were worried about making eyes, then why not block from the other side and make a base with ?

When White went for this wall it was clear that it had no development potential. If it also needed to make a base, what was the point? Better to die like a lion than to live like a dog.

Jonsa, did you study Bill's review ? He already answered your question in his SGF.

Can I have some advice on this weird (and short) game?

So I just played this weird game on KGS. My opponent was rude, left after move 68, and then resigned a few minutes later when I asked him to finish the game.

That is not why I am posting this. Black (my opponent) played very oddly, playing tengen on move 3 for example, and I did not know how to ...

Hello from Switzerland

Hi, I'm jonsa. I live in Bern (although I'm actually American). I first started playing go after watching the Alpha Go - Lee Sedol match in 2016 but quickly lost interest -- I had no one to play with in-person. Now I'm living in Bern and going to the Go Club here once a week, which I really enjoy. I ...
