Pardon my ignorance on this topic, but I'm wondering why, when caught violating the most basic premise of competition, there is anything other than a lifetime disqualification?
(If there was actual doubt about intentional violation of the rules, then 8 years would be too harsh, but if was dead-to ...

Re: New version of Go Consultants issued
I have purchased and enjoyed several of you books, most recently Kamakura, Great Unexpectations, and Eminence Grise. I also very much enjoyed the E-book version of the "Go Consultants".
I would like to know just how much new material is the physical book re-issue of the Go Consultants.

Re: Asli, a Go-like game, is available on Abstract Play
I'm usually skeptical about some of these "go-like" games. But I checked it out anyway, and it is actually a fascinating and elegant looking game (though maybe its predecessors more so). So I look forward to trying it/them out!

Re: How TelegraphGo became 9d on Fox in 7 years
Seriously, though, this has been a good thread and Nate's great achievement intrigued me enough to break my normal rule and watch his YouTube video. With the caveat that I couldn't watch all of it (I have to listen with earphones at maximum volume and, if I do that, I risk losing more of what ...

Not to be off topic here, and I mentioned this on some other post a ways back.

The article says that the ranks in go are like karate. But it is actually more correct to say the opposite.

Yeah, just encountered it on FB. It belongs in the Go Sightings as a meta-go-sighting, especially since it lists all the sources in the credits.

Re: A special (new?) strategy in AGA field?
Black to play and win
I must be missing something, what is the number of prisoners on each side?
At first sight, assumming no prisoners, black has 22 points, white has 14, so with komi 6.5 black won already.
While not especially necessary, AGA still counts with prisoners as a convention ...

May I ask the point of setting Komi to 14.5? Is it just to to ensure that a win vs loss depends on the solution?Gérard TAILLE wrote:AGA rules, komi 14.5

Re: Superko rules and ko-cycles rules are BAD board game des
Note the superko rule doesn't require keeping information of all previous board states, just the ones that follow capture. Hmm, does that mean the Draw if Three Repititions rule in Chess is actually bad game design?
