Re: Why I Quit KGS
I understand your feeling, and can sympathize with you. However, this type of complaint has happened often enough, that we can see the template of what will happen from the onset:
Step 1: Someone is upset by admin behavior on KGS.
Step 2: They explain their situation in detail either here, on senseis library, or perhaps to the KGS admin inbox.
Step 3: Some that have been banned for reasons they didn't agree with in the past sympathize with the poster, and express their condolences.
Step 4: KGS cronies and others that don't like to hear about KGS complaints will express their annoyance with the post (eg. "Too bad", "It's a private server", "You shouldn't get the admins angry", etc.).
Step 5: Lengthy debate (depending on the amount of free time of those involved).
Step 6: Everyone is angry with one another, and the post eventually dies.
Step 7: ???
Step 8: Profit???
I'm not so sure if Step 8 is really accurate... But I think we're on Step 3, now.
My condolences...

Did you not read Kirby's outline? We're not on the insulting other people's sense of humor stage; we're on the stage where KGS apologists post.

Re: Why I Quit KGS
People missed the point of the post. It's not a complaint, it explains why he quits KGS.
It's of interest to people who read gosensations.com (I do, frequently)
If you don't, I guess you shouldn't answer this post.
So, as a reader of gosensations, and despite KGS problems, I would still like to read about interesting events on that server.
Edit: but I completely understand and support you if you choose not to publish KGS news for the above reasons.

Well, entertainment is certainly subjective. I can understand where you're coming from, but as far as YouTube videos are concerned, I think that was actually one of the better ones. Not that that's saying much....
As for the supposed "profanity", I'm pretty sure they were just censoring random words just for the heck of it (and probably because *every* YouTube video has to have rampant profanity...). I'm pretty sure at one point I heard them bleeping over the word "fine", and the subtitle showed "f***", implying it was a certain common four letter word many YouTubers utter every few seconds....
Anyway. The OP has stated his case, and his intentions. So, to him, good luck with that.

Re: Why I Quit KGS
DT - I think you should just cool down and re-think this.
It's nothing new that admins occasionally overstep their bounds. They do the job in their free time in order to contribute to a community that they, like you, value - and unless they are masochists, their only reward is occasionally to play god. On the other hand, it wouldn't be surprising for a person who's been on kgs every day for the past 5 years also from time to time to overstep their bounds. I know I have. Everybody gets ticked off by being banned (or censored), but on the other hand, I've also been glad to see some obnoxious twerps being taught a lesson.
It seems hard to believe that two silly bans would outweigh 400 buddies. You have contributed a great deal to the community, and unless you have other motives (like that you feel that you're wasting too much time) I think you should re-consider.

Re: Why I Quit KGS
The "unfriendly" social aspect of KGS is mainly confined to the English Game Room. There is really nothing to stop you from forming your own room with your 400 buddies and chatting away all you want there.

There used to be this mid-dan player with a New England Patriots avatar who would regularly pollute the kibitz in high-dan games in EGR. I don't think I ever saw that guy get banned. I wonder if he's still around, because I stopped watching games on KGS.
I bet that obnoxious twerps were banned many times, but I must say that KGS standards are really confusing at times. That's why I stick to private chats/rooms (as per tchan's advice).

While my post may have been a 3, this is surely a 4 and invokes a fairly strong desire in me to move on to 5 and yes 6.
The OP is not alone in his desire to hang out and chat, not just with specific people, but rather with whomsoever comes along and has something interesting to say. The EGR is where people hang out when they are waiting for a game or don't feel like playing and want to enjoy the bustling atmosphere of a bunch of random go players entertaining each other. It simply doesn't happen elsewhere. The suggestion for the OP to make his own room is frivolous.
Patience, grasshopper.

Re: Why I Quit KGS
Well daal, I tend to hang out at the L19 room and study interesting tsumegos there with my friends from time to time. I never show my tsumego studies on EGR.

Re: Why I Quit KGS
TChan, I'm glad that you enjoy that. You might note however, that yours is often the only game in the room, and the L19 room is not the place where lively discussions take place. The L19 room does not provide the friendly atmosphere that the OP and many other enjoy about KGS. (Silence is not considered friendly). People come to KGS for various reasons.
The OP was not complaining that are not enough places on KGS to discuss things, but rather that by enforcing both explicit and non-explicit policies in the EGR, the admins are destroying one of the things that makes the server particularly attractive. Whether or not you feel that it is appropriate to discuss non-go topics in the EGR, it seems that KGS, like L19 should be wary of zealously enforcing policies in a way that drives away some of their most valuable contributors - and DT, a strong player who actively helps and teaches weaker players, who effectively advertises for KGS on gosensations, and often perks up the chat room is such a contributor.

Re: Why I Quit KGS
I'm in the scorched earth camp: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=5916. KGS would be better off without the EGR.
