My plan to become 3-kyu in 4 weeks!
If you stopped dreaming, you surely stopped living!
I'm at the moment 6k on KGS (didn't play there since one week) but I'm able to beat a 5k-KGS-player at my local Go-club. So, roughly I try to improve two to three stones on KGS. Here's the plan:
28.05.2010, Friday → 02.06.2010, Wednesday:
197 Tsumegos from “Graded Go Problems for Beginners Vol. 3”
// ~33 a day
28.05.2010, Friday → 25.06.2010, Friday:
534 Tesujis from “Get Strong at Tesuji”
// ~28 a day
03.06.2010, Wednesday → 25.06.2010, Friday
88 Tsumegos (5-move-problems from “1001 Life-and-Death Problems“)
// ~4 a day
10 Chapters from “Tesuji“ (104 p.)
// one chapter in two days
3*4 and 4*4 Josekis from “38 Basic Josekis“ (27 Josekis // 168 p.)
// 1-2 Josekis a day
3 ½ Chapters (Forcing Moves, Inducing Moves, Reducing and Invading large Frameworks, Invasions into three-space-extensions) from “Attack and Defense“ (less than 88 p.)
// one chapter in six days
20 Principles from “Opening Theory Made Easy” (167 p.)
// ~one principle a day
As for playing games: I'm going to play at least three (max. five) serious games against Karaklis over the next two weeks. Then I'm going to play serious RL-games every wednesday (4 * 2-3 games).
The rest depends.
Goal: Be satisfied with my play at the local tournament on the 26./27. of June and score 4 wins with my estimated 6-kyu EGF-rank!

Good luck! Keep us posted. Also, what do you plan to do to reward yourself if you manage the goal?
Someday I want to be strong enough to earn KGS[-].

Thank you both!
Score 4 wins in the tournament would be a great reward! Nothing else, I guess. I'm already on vacation shortly after the tournament =D

That's an awful lot to study. Be advised to keep a fire extinguisher handy in case your head starts to smoke. Also, there appears to be a discrepancy between your goal as stated in the post and the one in the post title. Good luck at either of them, but you should probably make up your mind
Patience, grasshopper.

Re: My plan to become 3-kyu in 4 weeks!
As a rule of thumb, I heard KGS is like 3 stones weaker compared to EGF. So, I hope that fits ^^
As for the Tsumegos: Only 1001 Life-and-Death Problems have a fairly difficult quality. The other ones are fairly simple for me. So, it's not that much =D
But thank you!

Just remember: The hardest part isn't completing this training plan, but to start it and keep going on a consistent basis.

I can only warn not to overdo it. I can tell it from my experience. But of course your mileage may vary. Or as we say in Cologne "Jeder Jeck is anders"
Good luck with your tournament!

Hey sodesune,
hope you'll be able to do your tough training program!
Which go-tournament are you going to attend, the China-CUp in Berlin or the Ponnuki in Paderborn?
If the unlikly case happens and you're going to visit paderborn we can play some games there to check your progress *g
I think normally there isnt such a huge gap between kgs and german-egf ranks, but especially in the range from 15-5k the gap seems a little bit wider, so maybe 3 stones are correct.
If you live in berlin you have to consider that most of the berlin-ranks are 1 stone weaker then the rest of germany.
Good luck to achieve your goal, if you'd like I can create one or two audioreviews of your games so dont hesitate to post them in the game analyse forum.
P.S.: Dont over do it this may backflip

Yeah, I know.
Actually that's why I came up with this plan. I just wanted to give me a roadmap of what I think is possible to handle and evaluate the result to become clear on how I'm going to study further. I hope, I get used to this amount of studying over the four weeks, so it will become natural. But then, I really have to play great at the tournament, so that the work justifies : D
We will see, how it goes. I'll keep you updated ; )
karaklis
Schau'n wa ma! ; D
I think four weeks are suitable for this amount. If it's too much, I'll reconsider at the end. As said, I'm on vacations afterwards so I have a pause anyway to recover in the worst case ^^
Jonas
Neither nor. It's a tournament in Graz, Austria =D
But I'll be happy to post some good games in the Game-Analyse-Forum. Maybe Karaklis will help me here =)
Thank you all! I have to go through this, just because of all your cheering : )
Day 1 out of 29:
35 Tsumegos (2 wrong) from “Graded Go Problems for Beginners Vol. 3” - check!
30 Tesujis (2 wrong) from “Get Strong at Tesuji” - check!

I understand that the most efficient way to become a 3 kyu in four weeks is to start as a shodan ande sniff a lot of glue.

I'm always looking for any go publications that i don't have, in any western language. Wanna trade or sell some?

Re: My plan to become 3-kyu in 4 weeks!
Three stones in four weeks! Wow, that sounds a lot more difficult than my goal of six stones in 8 months. As others have mentioned I would worry about trying to learn too much too fast, but if you believe you're capable then by all means go for it. Good luck!

I'd be ecstatic to reach 3 kyu in 4 weeks, and I'm already 4 kyu.
