El Paso Texas go club

Post by Trebuchet »

We are forming a club in El Paso and are looking for players in the area.

I'd also appreciate any advice I can get on how to get this organized. We do plan to get connected with the AGA.

Congrats on your new club! I can't give you a ton of advice, and some of it you probably already know, but here's a few suggestions for you:

1. Get your club listed on PromoteGo.org

2. Looks like there's a game store in El Paso. (http://www.facebook.com/suncitygames ) If they have a bulletin board or would let you put up a poster, that would be a good place to advertise for members. And maybe a good place to meet.

3. If you are associated with a school, library, or community group planning to train kids to play, you can get an equipment grant from the American Go Foundation. http://agfgo.org/pages/home.php

4. The American Go Foundation also would love to give your library a complete set of Hikaru No Go. (I see the El Paso Library only has a partial set.) The library is also a good place to advertise for players. They might even be interested in letting you host some Learn to Play nights.

Hope your club gets off to a great start!

EDIT: I should add that if your club does qualify for a grant, they will also assign you a mentor to give you help and advice getting your club started. My mentor has been awesome. :)

We are now an official chapter of the AGA: Paso del Norte Go Society.

I am looking into getting sponsored by our local library or one of the city community centers.
