Hi.

is there any chines/corean/japanese or general board games store where to buy Goban or store in Boston?

Is there any chance to get a good floor goban there?

Every H-Mart I've been to has had cheap Korean boards and stones. There is one in Burlington, MA. http://www.hmart.com.

The Burlington H-mart definitely had the cheap go board & stones the last time I was there ("cheap", iirc, meaning $40 for both). However it would be hard to get to if you're visiting Boston proper and don't have a car.

I'm pretty sure "Games People Play" in Cambridge sells go equipment and go books. You should call in advance to make sure, though, if you already know what you want. It's about midway between the Central and Harvard stops on the Red Line. If you nose around in Chinatown (which is a block away from Boston Common) you should be able to find a weiqi set in those dozens of little shops, although I can't promise anything about the quality. There is also a "Little Japan" inside the Porter Exchange building (on the Red Line), but I don't know for sure that they sell go stuff there.

But really, you should email the massgo.org people. I'm sure they have a list of places that sell goban somewhere.

There is a game store in Cambridge, Mass., essentially "in Boston", which sells go equipment. They have a web site here: http://www.thegamespeopleplaycambridge.com/ but they have a lot more stuff. Try calling them for info about nicer equipment or floor boards.

I don't know what to tell you. I just checked out hmart.com and they are selling a combination baduk/chess set for $23, but at the one in Burlington they sell a folding board which is about $20 and a set of stones that is about $18. This is my recollection from a year ago, when I was thinking about buying another set.

I live in Boston. I looked around... and ended up buying my stuff online (at YM Imports). You get better quality for better price, even with shipping.

But, if you really want to buy it locally, try Games People Play in Cambridge or Eureka on Beacon St. in Brookline. They have a few boards and some cheap glass stones and cherry wood bowls with loosely fitting lids. The store in Cambridge has a small selection of go books (including Invincible).
