Locating other players

I recently finished my 20 games on IGS that you play before the ? is removed from your ranking. I took a look at my rank graph, which shows all sorts of information, which is quite cool. What it showed me as well, which is very good news indeed, is that I am ranked 2nd in my country, so obviously there is someone else playing Go here in Zimbabwe.

Does anyone know how I can track that person down through IGS? Not in stalker fashion, but in a friendly "hi, would you like a game?" sort of way.

I don't live in Zimbabwe - I'm in Cape Town - but I do expect that I'll visit from time to time since my wife is from there. I'll be in Harare at least once a year, I guess. Where are you situated? It would be 'lekker' to play a real game of Go on visits up North.

Are there many players in Zim? I haven't heard of many but, hey, I haven't looked.

I saw your location, and was going to look you up if I ever came down there. My wife's from Cape Town, so we have a good symmetry going! We look to be around the same rank as well.

I'm in Harare, and up until now I thought I was the only one, other than a couple of mates I've tried to teach. Very pleased to see that not only is there someone else here who plays, but that they are a better player, but tracking them down, or finding any information about them at all, looks tricky.

Definitely give me a shout next time you are around!

I don't think you can do a search from the whole user database, but you can try "user zimbabwe" or (short) "us zimb" in the terminal, every time you login, one day you will find him online

(didn't you happen to have an older account, maybe from years ago, that you abandoned and forgot after trying igs for the first time? sometimes it happens)

You can write

find -.zw

in the console (most IGS clients have one, but not all).

This gives a list of players who have .zw as part of their user name or used .zw email address when they registered.
Anyway you get a list of usernames some of which are players with their country set as Zimbabwe.
