SmartGo Kifu on sale

Post by smartgo »

(1) SmartGo Kifu is on sale (50% off) until September 15.

(2) SmartGo Pro has been discontinued. It's sad to kill an app that has 300 reviews and a 4½ star average rating, but SmartGo Pro was iPhone-only and has since been superseded by SmartGo Kifu, which works on both iPad and iPhone.

Unfortunately, Apple doesn't provide a solution to upgrade SmartGo Pro users to SmartGo Kifu. To help with the transition, I'm holding a two-week sale on SmartGo Kifu, at 50% off ($9.99 instead of $19.99) – the first ever sale for SmartGo Kifu. It may be the last. This is your chance to upgrade to SmartGo Kifu, or simply get SmartGo Kifu at half off. After September 15, the price will be back at $19.99.

This is just your solution to the "upgrade revenue" problem, isn't it ;)?

Upgrade revenue from major app upgrades would be nice in the future, but for now, enough Go players are getting an iPad or iPhone for the first time and finding SmartGo Kifu. I'm happy to keep adding features (like joseki matching) as free upgrades and adding value to the app.

This sale is a makeshift solution because Apple is not providing what's really needed: a way to upgrade users of one app to another. I'm still hoping they'll support that at some point; meanwhile, I work with the tools I have.
