My goal is 1d

Post by Alguien »

It's always been 1d first IGS, then KGS, then DGS and then the local club (which is KGS-4, roughly EGF).

The problem with that is that 1d at the club (5d kgs) is not an objective I'd enjoy following. I've recently decided to go back to the basic 1d kgs and tackle the rest when I reach that one.

Anyway, the reason of this post is that I've just reached 3k kgs for the first time ever.

I'm sure I'll lose a couple of games and go back to 4k, but I don't care; the twin ones are close.

obviously these are good goals.

But KGS-4 = EGF?

I have a winning record against EGF 4d's and I'm KGS 5d... I've never heard anything beyond EGF = KGS-2 (And I'm not positive I believe that either).

Where are you based?
Tactics yes, Tact no...

KGS-4 might apply in the DDK ranks but it's a lot narrower as people get stronger. I know KGS 5ds who are EGF 3ds and similar.

My experience is it varies from about KGS+1 to about KGS-2 depending on how much said player feels comfortable playing online. For those tournament regulars who are KGS regulars too, their EGF grade tends to be -1 or -2, but there are plenty of players who have the same stable rank on both.

Madrid.

I could investigate further, but I based the observation on more than half a dozen cases from 9k to 4k (who are 5k to 1d kgs). I do recall someone talking about the gap getting smaller beyond 1k, though.
