First visit to a go club

Post by Alguien »

Yesterday I went to my local go club.

After so many years watching games online and even playing (occasionally) it was strange to see people sit down in that long table and actually play the game as it was meant to be played.

I played two handicap games (5h and 6h, very strange to me, as in internet you always have people close to your rank) against a 15k and then a 9h against the local master (both my first 9h against game and defeat).

In all, a pleasant experience and a chance to meet nice people.

I'll go back there today. :)

From the perspective of playing at a club a lot more than online, I find it weird to only play games that are even or handicapped within a couple stones. I guess you get used to whatever you do.

I'm looking forward to going back to my local club, if they're still active. I've overcome my online game anxiety and think I've also kicked my real-life game anxiety.

I happen to go to the same club as Alguien. A very nice place to play indeed. And the local master is a fun teacher too (if only he found time to teach me...)

I decided it was time to seek out more face to face go, so I showed up at the Princeton go club the last two weeks. I am going back again this week. I'm going to try to go every week. It is silly not to go when it is only about ten miles away.

That is silly.

I went to mine and had a good time. It's a small club, only 3 regulars it looks like. I haven't been back recently which sucks.

43.5 Miles, but it's worth it.
