Hi all,

I'm looking for a magnetic 9x9 set (or if not magnetic, "road-worthy") for a road-trip with a friend next month.

So far I have not found such a thing -- if you know of one please tell.

Thanks!

I haven't seen 9x9, but there's a 10x10 one they sell on Ebay.

It's in Hong Kong, though, not sure you'd get it in time.

I bought one for one of my early Go purchases. It was okay for the price, but some of the magnets wouldn't stay in the stones, so I had a super-glue session with it. The little plastic latch that holds it closed liked to fall out, too.

Yeah, I've found a couple online that fits my description and e-mailed their creators.

One is a fridge magnet 9x9, but my question is whether the fridge is required or will the pieces stick to the board.

If anyone here makes one or knows someone who makes one, let me know.

Fridges aren't magnetized, so pieces stick to it when they are on the fridge, they will stick when they aren't.

EDIT: you should make sure magnetic refers to the pieces sticking to the board, and not just the board sticking to the fridge. It could just be for decoration

Well, I guess he gets a free plug. But they are a fantastic organization besides.

What do you think? He wrote to me:

"Thanks for your message, Kevin. The fridgego sets need an iron/steel surface, but there's always the outside of your car! Otherwise, a small message board from walmart etc is fine, or even a piece of tinplate cut from a large tin can will do the job....."

and "The board is made of magnetic material too, so it weighs just over 12 ounces or about 300 grams. P"

I've been meaning to get a few sets of those for a while now, but the last time I contacted Peter Wendes, he insisted on not using bank transfers (in my case international, I don't know where you are), using a money order instead(if i remember correctly).

That made it much more of a hassle to me than a credit card/ bank transfer order, and eventually I didn't get them.

I have nothing against it, just a heads-up. This was a few years ago, so it might have changed by now. If so, let me know. :)

I just got one of these and I can confirm the problem with the magnets not staying in the stones. The stones are made of plastic and have round holes on one side where the magnets go in. The magnets come in little pre-cut sheets. You push them out and they've got an adhesive backing which is meant to stick to the inside of the stone, but it often doesn't stick. When you lift the stone off the board, the magnet stays there. The white stones are worse than the black ones for this.

I also had a problem with the little legs breaking off, but I glued them back on as well and it's fine. It's an el cheapo $10 kit and you get what you pay for.

I use my phone.

Stones seem to stick to thir places in all situations. Even upside down.
