Wondered how or if you can record your moves while your actually playing ( in tournaments )?
In chess this is easy enough and I recently saw a Go player using his Ipad to record the moves he was making, but what if you don`t have an Ipad?

Point-and-shoot digital camera (with all beeps and chimes disabled, of course; no pop-out lens for longer battery life;
very quick zero-to-shoot response time).

Absolutely. Recording your games allows you to easily review later on either by yourself or with another stronger player. In English it's called a "game record," in Japanese 棋譜用紙 aka "Kifu."

You can purchase a notepad of them or print a few out (one per page or two up). Some tournaments might supply them on paper.

The standard when writing is to use either two different colors (e.g. black and red pens) or to circle white.

Also a warning: it takes practice to get it right. I tried to record with software (iPhone) and with paper (at different times). It takes practice either way to record a game under pressure of playing, so either plan on doing so at your local club (hopefully you have one!), or expect to miss a game or two while you're learning.

You'll determine your pattern, whether you record each move right after it's made, or record your opponents move and yours together right after your move. It's a little tricky playing, tapping the clock, and recording moves all at once.

Paper *may* be easier to correct when you get it wrong and don't realize it until several moves later. I've had to abandon a few records because I couldn't correct them mid-game...too much pressure!
