The connection has timed out

Post by daal »

For much of the last 12 hours, I have not been able to connect to the L19 website with my computer (or any of the other computers in the house), but strangely, I do have access to the forum on my phone using the same WiFi connection.

I'd suggest rebooting the router.

If that doesn't work, rebooting the computer.

If that doesn't work, installing a new browser and trying.

If that doesn't work... It's gremlins.

Thanks. I tried all of your suggestions, but no luck. Last night, another user said on KGS that he was also having trouble connecting, so it seems more likely that the problem is on the server's side. Odd though that I can connect with my phone... Must be gremlins :-)

Perhaps you have a virus checker or peer blocker on your PC that has flagged the L19 site as a malware or similar site?

I'm in Germany, but I've now heard from a few people in the UK who are also having trouble connecting. Maybe there's been some damage to those cables at the bottom of the ocean. (yes there really are actual cables between continents which occasionally need to be raised to the surface and patched aboard specialized ships).

Same problems here yesterday, for a few hours. (I also live in Germany.)

I've not had any problems of the sort.

Edit: okay, scratch that.

It's been almost 48 hours since I've been able to reach the forum on any computer other than my phone. I'd really appreciate some confirmation from the administration that the problem is being worked on, or some more troubleshooting suggestions. Thanks.

The above post is mine. This account was totally inaccessable, so I dropped into one of the dummy accounts that I use for diagnostic purposes. It was very slow too.

Then, in the past five minutes, everything came up to full speed for both accounts.

Thanks for looking into it, Robert. Unfortunately, it's still not working for me. Apparently, the problem is worse for users in Europe. Aside from those who've written in this thread (bonobo and I in northern Germany, HermannHiddema in Holland), topazg and uberdude in the UK have also been having difficulties. I have no idea why I should be able to connect to L19 with my phone using the same WiFi connection that times out on all computers in the house. Peculiar. Let me know if there's something I should try.
Greetings, Daniel

This is a very particular gremlin. Not only does it tolerate phones, but it like some threads better than others. I can read off-topic threads easily, but not Malkovich games.

@Magicwand: I've been trying to post in our game for several hours now. I can't do it.

Are other people seeing a geograhpical bias? So far, it affects mostly members in Europe, and me out here in California.
