I propose that threads in "Study Journals" and Malkovich games should not appear in the "View Active Topics" list.
These threads are the most frequently updated and any other threads pertaining to actual discussion, questions or new topics tend to get lost in the deluge of journals and games, making the active-topics list somewhat difficult to use.
Anyone following a particular journal or game can subscribe to the thread and anyone wanting to see a list of active journals or games can visit that subforum.
I think that "View Active Topics" is a vitally important page on a forum, particularly one which is not excessively active. It should be made as useful as possible to ensure that new topics are not ignored and active discussions are joined by forum visitors.

Well if we look at the "views" rather than the "replies" we see that both those contain some of the most popular threads on L19. Personally I like having them in lists. However, I use mainly the View Unread Posts, so perhaps it is possible to treat View Active Topics differently.

I also only do that. I've looked at "Active topics" occasionally, but am baffled by how it differs from "unread" so I generally ignore it.

Same here. For the "unread" posts you can use the "Mark Malkovich read" link in the top right corner, that will prevent Malkovich threads from being listed, but you will have to click it always before clicking on "view unread posts".

While we're on the subject, I would love the ability to exclude particular threads I am no longer interested in from the 'unread posts' view. I worry that this could become quite a burden on the database after a while, though.

I would like my "view unread" to not be updated by posts or threads created by people on my censored list.
