Hmm, interesting. I'd have thought they'd end up running the same way...wineandgolover wrote:
I have no idea why this worked. But it did. Thanks squirrel.
The regularly downloaded version still has no sound, which renders it very undesirable to me.
But Javaness's way clicks nicely. (Seriously, why?)
The fonts are still screwy in both, but I can deal with that and a little terminal hassle.
There is a little configuration hack you can do to get the fonts back. I remember giving it to XY0908 when I still had a mac.
I found this method on the fridge, I should have remembered it myself really

I have Mountain Lion on the laptop. I had to update Java and I also had to uninstall and reinstall Cgoban.
I haven't checked my iMac yet. That has Lion on it. I'm just glad that the laptop is working again.

Re: Did Apple kill cgoban for me?
If you Mac guys can bear to look, the thread "stone clicking sound missing - windows 7" has a "big ugly hack" java solution by Nick23 that generally works on Linux based OSs as well as Windows. In my experience on Mint, it only works for java running the downloadable resident .jar file, but not with the java web start file (because jws creates new directories each time it downloads the .jar file).
In my case, the command line, now embedded in my menu system, is: "java -jar /home/<user name>/.icedtea/cache/2/http/files.gokgs.com/javaBin/cgoban.jar" and this directory or your counterpart directory is where the "hack" folder has to be located along with the Cgoban.jar file. If running java and not Openjdk, the .icedtea directory level may be named something related to Sunjdk.
You Mac may have a completely different naming system for java folders.

I am on 10.6.8 too. I was avoiding the security update as I wasn't sure how it would affect KGS. Then KGS actually stopped working when I tried to launch it! I think Bill must have updated the program due to this situation. So I installed the security update, and then downloaded a new version of cGoban, and now all is right in the world again. Phew!
