Painful league game (about 1k)

Post by VincentCB »

Hi all,

This is a game I played in the CGA online league. I tried to play a territorial game, but the fighting turned quite painful for me. I would appreciate some comments

Thanks in advance!
-Vincent

The attachment at 45 really felt heavy to me. At move 44, you are way ahead in territory, and his best chance to catch up is in the middle. A lighter, more flexible move seems fitting.

Thanks a lot guys!

Looking at it after a good sleep, :b45: doesn't look very good . I was obsessed about finding a ladder breaker for the lower left, but pulling out that stone doesn't even look that big. Starting unnecessary messy fights is one of my specialties

Around moves 115 to 140, I was very short on time, so I made a lot of obvious misplays. I'll need to manage my time better in the future. I tend to overestimate the amount of time I have left in Canadian byoyomi, and then get into big trouble because I have to play 15 stones in 2 minutes  .

How did you manage to lose this game :-? You had a solid opening and played well in the early middle game to take the lead. In fact, you outplayed W through most of the game, until around move 93 where you got lost in the fighting. If you had sidestepped that fight (giving up two stones to cash in on the K17 cut), I think you would have won.

The move I would criticize most is :b81:. It looks like you are trying too hard around here to gain a little extra efficiency, but this move leaves bad aji. It would be much better to play the very solid good-shape "honte" move M7. After that, the B center group would be secure forever, leaving B free to play strongly elsewhere. As a bonus, W would still have to worry about his thin shape around here.
