Yeah, for about 20-30 minutes I think. I assume JB has been fumbling in the innards of the server to make sure that xed_over and I can keep on loading dozens of unread posts ;-)

I'm assuming everyone else has been experiencing the above reported problems today? It took me over an hour to login - kept timing out.

I couldn't login all of yesterday and well until today afternoon (East coast U.S.) Seems almost back to normal now, except for page reloads being a bit more sluggish than before.

You are assuming that my programming skills are way more current than they actually are. I don't mess around under the hood much. I check tire pressure, maybe change oil or tires. But for this kind of problem, I pass it on to Jordus.

If that's what the logs say, then I'll cut back (but why give us the option in the first place? ).

What's crazy is being able to only read a few lines before having to click away to another page :rambo:

Let me be clear that I was just teasing you (my smiley didn't convey my meaning well enough...reminds me of another thread...). I fully expect you (and whoever else so desires) to be able to load as many posts in a thread as they'd like. Depending on what the problem is, I could see you being the one most affected by strange issues, though, because of how you look at the threads differently than most other users.

Same message for you, Bonobo. Not trying to harp on anybody! ;)

I know we have a few more experienced phpBB coders here on the forums. Have any of them, or Jordus, had a chance to look at these issues? I know you guys have your own admin discussions, and posts in this thread indicate that, but it would be nice to hear a little more about what is going on.

And I made my post just trying to come up with ideas of things to look at - not insinuating that people don't know what they're doing. Trying to help move the research forward so we can get this cleaned up.

Thanks, but … was not needed. Peace :-)

Oh, OK, I’m still not too well informed about who does what here :-)

I’m getting 503 errors again …

Interestingly, the “view unread posts” loads w/o any problem. But as soon as I try to load one of those threads, first it seems (tries?) to load for an eternety (slow progress wheel in Chrome), then I (mostly) get this 503, plus, for example, this message:
Request failed.

Got java.net.SocketException (Connection reset): viewtopic.php?f=24&t=7178&view=unread
What does Java have to do with this?

But sometimes the page gets loaded after a few minutes, and then this happens quickly (fast progress wheel in Chrome), but often, oddly, it does not go to the last unread post but to the top of the page.

Connection is now slow, and the site has been effectively unavailable for hours. :(

I was unable to connect at all from 7 am Tokyo time to just now ~7 hours. That was with firefox and chrome on windows and safari and chrome on iOS.

There has been a lot of connection problems lately (say, for a week now). Slow response times, lot of "unable to connect"'s, being logged out (while using "log me on automatically") etc.

I think it's pretty clear there's something wrong with the site that needs a long term fix. These last couple of days have been especially bad, but this thread is evidence that we've been having problems for a while.
We don't know who we are; we don't know where we are.
Each of us woke up one moment and here we were in the darkness.
We're nameless things with no memory; no knowledge of what went before,
No understanding of what is now, no knowledge of what will be.
