I was trying to play a game this evening and extreme lag on the KGS client: clicking on the "Server Stats" at times yielded a lag of up to 80 seconds!
Opening up the DOS prompt and typing "ping goserver.gokgs.com", however, resulted in no loss of packets, and a response time on average of a little over 1 second. (I have satellite internet, so a little over a second is normal.) As far as I could tell, I haven't had any lag problems connecting to any web pages either. It's only trying to play a game with the client where I've been suffering the lag. I should also add that it took three or four tries to get connected to the server when I logged in.
Any idea what might be causing lag using the client, but not when pinging the server?

Re: Server lag question
Having the same problem tonight. Started getting lag of >50s. This time, I figured I'd log out and log back in. Now I can't connect to KGS at all via the client, getting an error message that the server "might be down". It took me a good 10 minutes to be able to connect.
I noticed that I also couldn't connect to POP or NNTP servers, but ping and HTTP weren't having any problem.
Any idea what could be causing this?

on the surface, it really sounds like an ISP problem
