Nova.gs Inaugural Tournaments

Post by matburt »

Greetings!

We've been beta testing tournaments on the Nova.gs site for the last couple of months and it's finally time for us to share some with you.

We've created 3 site-wide correspondence tournaments to help kick things off, so there is plenty of competition for all skill levels:

These tournaments are set to start at 5pm EST this upcoming Monday (May 27th) and have comfortable time settings for correspondence play.

If you've been meaning to check out our site and all of our features now is a great time to jump in and find some great games.

Sounds interesting.

I am just wondering: If the tournament system is Swiss, woul fully handicapped games make sense? I'd suppose then playing without any handicaps would be more appropriate to determine the tournament winner (i.e. the strongest player).

We've tried to strike a balance with handicaps in tournaments specifically so that you don't end up playing games with tons of stones.

Note that our pairing algorithm will try to pair players of even strength, especially in the first round.

Players with the same number of tournament points will play an even game... where there is a point spread, however, the weaker player would receive a handicap equal to either the point spread or the rank difference whichever is less.
