Can White live unconditionally here or is it a ko? It came up between myself and skydyr in a game last night, I think I found a move that works for white here but I'm not certain and would be interested in other viewpoints.

White can live easily. Your move works, as do others in the corner.
The more interesting question, IMO, would be what the best endgame is.
I would expect play to go like this:
$$W White to play

So then the next question: Is a black move at
a now sente?

I don't think it's sente, this seems the most severe sequence for Black for me:
