I agree, the community is far, far too small to survive downvoting or similar being implemented.

If you are asking what I'd prefer, I'd prefer that people posted more go related topics - go problems, joseki questions, pro game questions - on this forum.

If you want to talk off topic, maybe try Yahoo chat - or maybe kgs chat if it's semi-go related.

The reason people argue here so much is that posts, on average, have little actual content that's truly about go.

Your post about a game position is an example of actual go content. I wish the forum had more of this, but apparently people don't find that as interesting... I'm kind of a hypocrite to say like this, but that's maybe why I've been the same rank for like 5 years.

Well, it takes all kinds... and some while people prefer more go related content, others understand that there is more interesting stuff to talk about around a Go table than just Go positions. This is why we have different sub-forums here, so everybody can find something to their liking.

There are many threads I skip over. You are free to do the same. I really do not see your point.

Ah, ok. I suspected that's what you meant but didn't want to start addressing it and find out that I misunderstood. I agree that more go related topics would be great, but I think it's simply too optimistic to think that off-topic discussion can be eliminated (or even reduced). Personally, I suspect that the forum would be a lot less lively and active if that were somehow accomplished - reducing off-topic discussion is probably more likely to reduce go-related topics than increase them.

I'm not sure what it's like on Korean forums, but the Go forum on Baidu Tieba is probably 80-90% off-topic. I personally feel that's a bit too much (and judging from some posts I see, I'm not alone), but think even in that case limiting off-topic would likely do more harm than good.

What does it even matter? Let people click 'like' if they want to. They're not trophies or gold coins, so who cares? I don't.
