After today, I could kiss Robert Green. Everyone cheering for the USA owes him a beer.

I feel sorry for him. Still, I thought the USA were worth a draw. They lacked the skill of some the English players, but they brought more athleticism and better organization (well done to the coach). The way they neutralized Rooney and the fullbacks was remarkable, and their centre half had a stunning game. I hear he hasn't played a game since August last year, which is pretty amazing, because his sureness of touch and ability to be in the right place at the right time frustrated the English time and time again.

We've yet to see what Algeria and Slovenia have, but I think USA and England will both be reasonably optimistic of progress to round 2.

Beckham's expression after the goal sums it all up for England:

I think the 1:1 was an acceptable result, maybe USA now gets #1 in the group, meaning the chances of Germany meeting England are very high ;)
Looking forward to the Slovenia game!

And today is the first match of germanys team, hope we will be able to do pull it off ^^

Oh and here are my bets for today:

Algeria vs. Slovenia => 0:1
Serbia vs. Ghana => 2:1 (I'm a little bit afraid of serbia in group D :X)
Germany vs. Australia => 2:0 (well I cant tip something else otherwise my sister who stands right behind me right now would kill me)

Even though I agree with this prediction, I still can't help but feel a bit of sympathy for Australia after their game against Italy 4 years ago :(. It's hard to watch a game when I want both sides to do well.

If you would have said 4:0, I would have accused you of insulting the Oz team. I feel a bit bad for them, seems unlikely that they'll recover to make it to round 2.

Wow yes. I swear the keeper on my son's U12 team would have stopped that shot.

And now for the time being, Slovenia holds first in Group C.

I thought North Korea played one of the cleanest games yet, no diving or showboating or any other dirty play, just good old soccer. Political differences aside, I'll be rooting for them :).

And Cote d'Ivoire almost won in the end... :( Bad passing by Portugal almost throughout all the game, I thought.

I missed that game, only saw the result. What happened?

Northkorea played super solid, after the first half the game was still tied with 0-0. After that brazil was able to shot two goals, in the last 15 minutes northkorea found some fightingspirit and was able to push brazil near the end of a draw, the endresult was 2:1.

I was really disappointed by the brazil-play, dont know if the tried to hold back on purpose to not reveal their full power or if that was their true strength. Hopefully Spain will show us some more enjoyable soccer today ~ really looking forward to it! :)

I think this sums it up for Spain:

I'm really glad I watched this game regardless, it was very exciting and a lot of (missed) opportunities for both sides. That crossbar got in the way a few times as well. The goal from Switzerland was pretty lame though :P.

I really, really liked the way Brazil played and I am glad Spain showed us some enjoyable soccer today.

Oh, by the way, Hup Holland!

Staying up all night for the big one (for my country at least) between Korea and Argentina in less than two hours and counting. It's pretty obvious who everyone expects to win, but nonetheless I hope the game's exciting enough to not have me doze off.
